Email Is Still the Best Thing on the Internet...

Email's the only way people can contact me online, I get PM's on forums from times to time but I never remember to check those so they go unread for weeks or longer. I don't social network, I don't Tweet, Email's the easiest and fastest way to communicate so I stick to it. If I was to FB I'd have to go thru all sorts of options to attempt to get it set up how I wanted, and then I'd have to pay attention for changes they make that could effect my settings. Email never changes, and it never fails.

Fun fact: electronic mail was a bundle of protocols later refined into data flow that became TCP/IP. IOW the internet IS email 😀

It is also the one thing that works almost anywhere. The line about the governments and spy agencies doing their work to eradicate secure email programs also seems particularly true. All the communication apps want access to your data and want you stay in their ecosystem.

But you get an email stating you have a PM.

Email is definitely the best. Social media and instant messaging have their places, but it doesn't replace email. That email never has any issues and always works is of course completely false, but it definitely works exceedingly well with a very high degree of reliability.

It's easy to set up and host your own email server too if you are so inclined and it will work every bit as much as any other email service. Can you set up and host your own facebook server???

I don't think email will ever die.

It is so well used that nobody will just stop using it.

Communication is essential and I think the invention of email nailed it straight on.

I think the only people that think email is dead, are people that don't have jobs.

Insightful post. E-mail has this official air that makes it suitable for job-related communication. Plus, there is the institutional e-mail adress thing that Facebook could not have replaced in any way.
