Email etiquette?

is there some unwritten law on email etiquette concerning bcc?

I just got this from my cousin:
"do you blind cc everyone now? that is pretty bad."

The contents of the email was just jokes nothing important. I just bcc'd because I wanted to keep the recipients private.

is that bad?

It is customary to CC anyone that is involved in an email. It is just polite.

But if it isn't important and just jokes BCC isn't bad.

my HR department forgot to BCC the 60 or so people who applied for my job (including me) when they announced that they ended the search and weren't going to hire anyone :| :| :| :| :| :| :|

I only use BCC when I need to keep another member private.

I hate when people get mad at me for not replying to an email that I was CC'd on... If you wanted a reply from me, send it to me... I consider a CC as an "FYI" not an email to myself.

No, you used it correctly.

So few people understand proper email ettiquette these days that it's not surprising your cousin was confused.

That's exactly the point of a BCC. Tell whoever it was to shut up.
