I've been looking for a different ip progy to use. The one i use now is just about perfect for me however i would prefer for it to be able to get the WAN ip directly from the router instead of being dependent on an external website.

The WWIP mentioned above can get it directly from the router, but it looks like it needs an smtp server to send the email? The one i use now has a sender built it and can send the email direct.

id24601 welcome to AT Network Forum.

1. If you mentioned another program that you think it is better than it would be very nice if you should also Share and tell us which one it is.

2. WWIP needs the address of the SMPT server that it uses to send the email with.
Any POP3 capable email server publish this address and can be used to send the email. That includes any private email services as well as almost all ISPs email, and even service like Google.

As an example if you have Verizon DSL you can use your own Verizon email by telling WWIP to use outgoing.verizon.net.

If you use on line service that does not publish its SMPT address then you are right WWPI cannot use the email.

whatismyip.com will tell you the address you are on at the time.

It would tell you the external IP of the computer that you are using to log to whatismyip.com, but if you are at a remote location it would Not tell what is your Home/Office computer External IP.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm a long time lurker but new poster so i didn't want to mention it incase it ran afoul of some "new member promoting a product spam" rule.

Anyways, what i use now is called Barefoot IP monitor. Its basically the same thing as what you mentioned (email/FTP notification), except it doesnt need an smtp server to send emails, it has a little tray icon that shows the LAN/WAN ip, and it doesnt have to have .NET installed. The only problem is that it is dependent on an external website to get the WAN ip so should that site ever become unreachable then ill be out $25 (its not freeware).

Otherwise its pretty cool, i have it set to check every half hour and then send an email to my mailbox and an email->TXT to my phone.
