EMACS in KDE for Linux 7.2?? How to highlight functions and enable special keyboard keys???

I just installed RedHat 7.2 and am using KDE. I want Emacs to run so it highlights functions and so I can use the "End" and "Home" buttons to go to the end and beginning of lines. I am coding in C. Does anyone know how I can set these preferences? Currently nothing is highlit. Thanks.
