I just saw this on an advertisement somewhere, and I was astounded at the price! $570 seems to be cheap for a computer like this one. But I don't know a lot about computer pricing, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me if you could actually get a better deal than this. I think the total cost is very close to the barebone OEM manufacturing cost.

That doesn't include the monitor, but it's an nForce2 based motherboard (being very good). If they use two sticks of RAM (for dual channel) it's not that bad. If they only have one stick of RAM in it, make sure to get another because the onboard graphics almost require dual channel RAM. I was pricing a system out for someone and a similar XP 1800+, 120GB HD, no speakers system came out to about $600 with an OEM copy of Windows XP.

I don't trust mail in rebates. Make sure the CPU is upgradable. Other than that, it looks decent, although you might be able to do it cheaper. Not much though.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I try not to buy machines that have Windows installed on them. Adds something I don't like to the price. :p

I got my eMachines MIR from my laptop ($150) relatively quickly. There's no reason the CPU would be soldered to the motherboard, only ECS (to the best of my knowledge) is doing that with older obsolete chips on old obsolete motherboards.

Hey, if you can't/don't want to build your own, that looks like a very good price to me, especially for all that you are getting.

Ok. I'm still not going to trust them. I'll mail them in, and if I get the money back, it's a special treat. :p

I figured it wasn't, but it is a concern for me.

running dual channel using integrated vid is pointless. most ppl that use integrated video most likely won't play much games. therefore why spend more for 2x256, when 1x512 is cheaper?

Definately true, so I say stick with what the machine comes with. BTW, this emachine is at a good price, but you can always build a better system for the same price.

FIC AU31 motherboard. (yes, you can flash the AU31 firmware to get rid of the big "E" at boot up)
You can also change FSB and multiplier in the bios but NO Voltage tweaking option. Hard mod?

Infenion 6ns RAM
Samsung 7200rpm HD
BTC CDROM

If you go w/ the higher model, you will get Pioneer DVDR 104

What does it say?

Also the OD near my job has a eMachines T3085 on clearance for $700 something. Pretty high, but I was going to talk to the manager and see how low I can get it for. I'm aiming for around $450. Worth it?

It's a good price, and the computer has upgrade options down the road, it has an open AGP slot, which is always a plus, and it's based on an nforce 2 board, combine that with an Athlon XP 3000+ and that looks like a pretty lean system, go for it! :)

I really don't understand how E-machine does it. The prices just seem so reasonable... Anyway, I've checked up on prices and I think I could build a system like it, except without the speakers and XP. But I don't know how I'd live without XP...

I feel kind of annoyed at this particular deal because I just bought a new computer for quite a bit more than that, and it is only marginally better than it.
