Hello,

For a couple of months now, hardware problems have been popping up on my m6809.
They are:

-LCD screen flickers or turns black. Seems to be a connection problem because if I adjust the screen, the screen goes back to normal. I haven't gotten the cracked hinges fixed yet, though.

-USB ports on the left side don't work properly. My Wacom Graphire3 jitters when I plug it in on those ports. Also, my iPod mini will not charge on the ports. I can revive the iPod somewhat so I can access the iPod's drive, but the battery will not charge at all. (I feared that the iPod has a dead battery)

-The USB ports on the backside turn off suddenly. It's very frustrating when I work with my Wacom and/or a USB mouse then suddenly the ports stop working. A restart fixes this, but it is very annoying. Problem happens even when I have the power settings to "Always On". I have the power setting to "Portable/Laptop" right now but I didn't set any of the ports to "Allow computer to turn off this device...".

-The DC connector seems to be loose. Plugging in the DC cord needs jiggling/tugging to get the connected LED and the yellow charging light to go on. <-This might be my fault because the cords get tugged on when I place my laptop on my lap.

Also, did anyone else update their BIOS to the BIOS given by eMachines through BigFix?
I would like to know if there are known problems with it and if it is still possible to flash back to the original m6809 BIOS because I don't have the original.

ANY help will be greatly appreciated. I bought the machine in a Portland, OR Best Buy and bought the extended warranty. I've spoken to a Coquitlam, BC, Canada Best Buy and I was told that they don't honour the U.S. extended warranty. This is really odd/unfair since the warranty pamphlet clearly says "International coverage". I will try again at a recently opened Best Buy in Vancouver, BC. Also, I will be going to the U.S. next week and I might bring along my m6809.

Sorry for the long post, but I tried to be as clear as possible.

Thanks a lot.

All kinds of electrical shorts and faults it sounds like. Did you drop this thing or maybe someone else did and never told you?

Sounds like some stuff is broken inside. I would keep hassling Best Buy even if you need to mail the thing back to the store in the US from where you purchased it. You paid for that insurance policy and you should make them pay up. That's all the extended service contract is....an insurance policy.

Yes you can flash the BIOS back to where it was. I don't think you need to do this for Best Buy to honor the warranty. It doesn't sound like a BIOS problem. Try to get them to replace the whole thing. Don't let them tell you nothing is wrong with it.

Good Luck.
