emachines blinking

A couple days ago my emachines T2984 started blinking randomly. The machine was on and running, but the power light was blinking as though it was on standby. I searched the Internet and found no solution. Few of you probably use such a budget system, but I just figured I'd let you my very simple solution:

I put it on standby and disturbed it to come back on, and when it came back on the light returned to normal.

What hardware, if any, is probably on its last leg? If lose the power supply and the motherboard, do you suppose my hard drive would be affected?

XP, by the way

It was probably just a fluke and you most likely don't have to worry. If it was a symptom of an underlying problem, it probably is related to the motherboard since the BIOS is in control of the system status lights (afaik). There's an outside chance a motherboard could take a hard drive with it, but you should have a backup of you important files either way!
