eMachine Motherboard upgradable?

I have an eMachine 466is. It has a 466mhz Celeron processor. I want to put a Celeron 700mhz processor in it. I don't know what kind of motherboard it has in it. I've been to the www.e4me.com website, but I can't tell if it is upgradable or not. Any help or input would be appreciated. I really don't want to buy a new motherboard. Memory won't help since I already have 256k RAM. Just want a faster processor.

Many of the E-Machines shipped with an ECS motherboard. They had onboard sound, video, modem & LAN. You could check their website to see if matches anything there. myurl

None of these motherboards from ECS are the one in my eMachine. My motherboard has only 2 PCI slots, 2 DIMM slots expandable to 256, and intergrated sound. Also has Slot 1 for the processor. No onboard LAN or modem. Any suggestions?

There aren't any SLOT 1 Celeron 700 processors. Can you see any silk screened information on the Motherboard for Bus Speed? Maybe it will support a higher bus speed than 66mhz. If it does see if you can enable a higher (than the stock 66mhz) bus speed.

They make a slotket to convert it to FCPGA for the Celeron 700. I don't see any info on the motherboard about running it at a higher bus speed.

are there any control for fsb, etc. adjustments? if there isn't, then chances are you are going to need a new motherboard, which also means new soundboard and any other integrated components. this is pretty harsh . i know that companies like emachine, compaq, etc. tend to build their systems with the goal of stability, and to lower production cost they leave out whatever is not necessary for operation, including the core adjustment necessary for overclocking, etc. that's one thing i don't like about pre-built systems. another option, but NOT ideal, is to replace the celeron with a slot1-piii, since you said that you're using the celeron with a slotket...but since you are using a celeron with a motherboard designed for slot-1 then it means that there has to be a fsb adjustment from 66mhz to 100mhz somewhere, either on jumper or bios. i don't know your board enough to make a conclusion, but good luck on it!

According to the e4me site, the motherboard for the 466is is listed as being a Florida TG. This is a prioritary motherboard for Emachine with the game port and one usb plug in the front of the case. Also, this motherboard should have a PPGA socket not a slot 1 connector. Did you see a slot 1 connector? If so, very strange. My understanding is that this motherboard is not upgradable beyond a celeron 500 or 533 (non-cumine type).

The Emachine is designed as a low cost system since it has built in sound and video on the motherboard. They work just fine for mom & pop type stuff as well as general office use. The motherboards are not very stable when used for 3D applications however, even with an upgraded PCI video card (I know this stuff because had a 400ix). Also, they use a 145 watt power supply which is weak to start with; they will not support much in the way of upgrades.

Your best bet is to use the system as is and save a little money and hit the For Sale forum and upgrade the entire system.

I have a 466is too. It has a 440LX chipset..cannot support 700 MHz processor (can't support any Coppermine processors). better to change the motherboard.
