A pretty good documentary on Elvis and the last 24 hours of his life.

*I learned that Colonel Parker ran Elvis in the ground.
*Elvis was going broke.
*Colonel Parker had a very bad gambling habit.
*Elvis had a huge drug habit.
*Elvis was a recluse.
*Elvis is definitely dead.
*At times Elvis would have 100+ women in his mansion!

Overall it was a sad story about a man who had it all, but at the end he had nothing. :(

He actually was kind of an asshole as a person, really. Overindulgent in everything, including a world-class womanizer. Also, the coroner found he had severe coronary artery/cardiovascular disease, and that can't all be attributable to his substance abuse problems. It was not only the drugs he would have needed to kick in order to live another 10 years, but a radical change in lifestyle and diet. And he would have needed to make these changes at least a couple years before he died. Dead man walking in those last couple years.

In the documentary they talk about his drug habit. It just got worse because he was under so much stress. He wasn't the top star that he once was. His records weren't selling. The only thing keeping Elvis afloat were his live concerts.

Elvis ate like a pig. He grew up on Southern fried food. The thing is he still ate like he was 20 years old. He just gorged himself with fat, fried food.

He was also becoming a recluse. He'd stay in his bedroom for days and sometimes weeks. When he had to travel he would move from his bedroom at home to a bedroom in the hotel. He hardly ever ventured out.

Elvis was most definitely a womanizer. Wouldn't you be? He had it all. The looks, the charisma, superstar status and a lot of money.

Finally, I blame The Colonel for Elvis demise. He sucked him dry. He was the POS in my opinion.

I always thought Elvis got a tad too much credit for what he did. Especially since all he was doing was speeding up Memphis blues and bluegrass. His main claim to fame is bringing that style of music to a white audience. By the early 60s though, rockabilly was already well on it's way out. The British Invasion really revolutionized things for the next 20 years and still heavily influences rock today. I don't think Elvis was able to adapt to the changes. Plus he was getting older then and didn't resonate with the baby boomers. There's a pretty big gap between 1962 and 1969 where he didn't release a single album.

I think that fall from grace really hit him hard emotionally. Here's a man that was used to getting his way from a fairly young age. You have sex, drugs, and money being thrown at you. Suddenly that's all gone. Not to mention the colonel was taking advantage of him. He turned to drugs and food as a way to numb the pain.

He clearly had issues but don't forget all those "women" he banged usually were rewarded with Caddy's or gold jewelry. His sorry excuse for a "Doctor" should have had a sit-down with him and told him the direction he was sailing into instead just writing more scripts for stronger meds. Probably figured that if he confronted Elvis with the truth the "gravy train" would end, very similar to MJ's "Doctor", at least he was held accountable.

Elvis ran the course of his life like any other Rock Star would imagine to on that scale.

He had wealth, pretty nice looks and a career that made him at the top of the charts at that time.

He had bad habits that carried with him and ended up making him lose it all and fall, just like any great hero :p.
