Need gallium for semiconductors. China controls 98% of the world’s usable supply (deposits aren’t helpful if you can’t dig it up and process it.)

Typically, it is a byproduct of aluminum refining.

I didn't know that.. but if it's aluminum that's necessary to make it.. doesn't Vietnam have one of the largest reserves??

Maybe we should make economic treaties with them instead of tariffing them. Tell them.. MAGA horny.. we love you long time!

Honestly, this will be like every other time someone tried to claim they could choke off something: some rando in the US will stumble up on the world's largest reserve of it in their hometown.

Maybe I’m an idiot but doesn’t the US have a decent amount of lithium that can be mined but it’s just more costly to mine?
This is true of most rare earth metals. China built the infrastructure for mining cheaply and there hasn't really been a need or reason to compete. However overall yeah we have plenty of the stuff here. It just would take a while to get it.
