Elon Musk Offered to Buy Twitter at a Lower Price in Recent Talks

Before Mr. Musk renewed his $44 billion proposal, he and the company haggled in discussions that ultimately did not advance.

In the weeks before Elon Musk declared that his bid to own Twitter was back on the table, his representatives spoke with the company several times about redoing the deal at a lower price, four people familiar with the discussions said.

Mr. Musk sought a discount of as much as 30 percent, three of the people said, a proposal that would have valued the company at roughly $31 billion. Twitter rebuffed the proposal, said the people, who requested anonymity because the talks were confidential.

In the past week, however, discussions narrowed to a discount of about 10 percent, which would have allowed Mr. Musk to pay about $39.6 billion for Twitter. Those talks ultimately did not move forward. Twitter’s market cap as of Wednesday was $39.2 billion.

The talks took place just weeks before a scheduled showdown in a Delaware courtroom to determine whether Mr. Musk must follow through with the $44 billion Twitter takeover bid he launched in April. He indicated in July that he no longer wished to buy the social media company, citing what he said was an uncontrollable spam problem. Twitter sued him to force the deal through.

Twitter: Fuck You. Pay Me.

This could really end up being fun to watch. Elon could end up pretty fucking leveraged.

Yeah, I still think he comes out of this not owning twitter and being more than $1B poorer than he is now.

The original offer is only a 10% premium to todays price? That already strikes me as a reasonable price. He wanted a discount on that? Lulz.

Arent offers below a 20% premium generally considered insulting?

Stock was in the low $40s when he was trying to haggle. Now its only 40 cents shy of when he made the deal. lol

I am sure many people would love to watch him be forced to sell off stocks to comply with his purchase agreement. That means he will be paying substantially more for twitter because of the tax bill that goes along with the sale of those stocks... After all his bullshit where twitter is concerned, it would be self inflicted and earned punishment so to speak. Would serve the bastard right!

Doesn't matter. If it tanks the day he takes control and he disbands the entire company it won't make a difference in his life.

I’m not at all confident that’s true. He would be internationally humiliated and it’s very clear he cares a LOT about what people think of him.

Yeah. He's becoming the Donald Trump of Tech.

So an Elon Musk Twitter, must be the Hugest success! He will be regularly telling us, how much better Twitter is doing under his leadership (even if it isn't).

Elon the social studies influencer -> SHUT THE FUCK UP.

- Elon looks down on piece of paper.
- Paper is a copy of his Asperger medical diagnosis.
- Elon decides to weigh in on inter human communication and social infrastructure of mankind.
Where the fuck is Jim Carrey when you need him?

So he'd be sad for a few weeks.
My point is that the only thing Musk has to do for the rest of his life is spend buckets of money on stupid crap that doesn't matter. 44 billion down the crapper won't change anything.

I really am interested to see what he changes at twitter. It has all the makings of a dumpster fire, and Musk seems like the kind of guy that wouldn't have a problem tossing out the first match.
The far left has already pissed him off, and I fully expect to see a reaction to that in how he runs the platform. I'm looking forward to several days worth of amusement from this one.

I will be disappointed if he lets the Q crowd run wild. I visit another place with a small group of Qtards and the level of stupid is off the charts in the section where they're allowed to post. It was amusing poking them at first, but it became depressing when I realized the poor bastards have lost touch with reality. Chemtrails, lizard people, and some clown that claims to be a time traveler from the future are all in the mix. It hurts my soul to see people so far out of touch with reality.

I think the most likely answer is he flails around for a few years before admitting Twitter was right on moderation all along.

Losing 44 billion liquid would definitely hurt Elon. He wouldn't just shrug it off.
