On a good diesel you’ll approach 1k miles on a tank, throw another tank in the back and you got some serious range…

Anyone that bought a vehicle thinking it would appreciate in value is a buffoon.
But Musk promised Tesla buyers that their vehicles would not only appreciate but would be income-generating as robotaxis.
And now not only is that never happening but he's slashing 40% off the owners' values just so Tesla can get more govt handouts.
At some point IMO we need to start blaming the conman instead of the victims.

So really rich people then coz the average Joe isn't gonna invest in all that.

The point of the Youtube clip was that EVs aren't the future of transportation that they are made out to be. It would be prudent to keep a gas powered vehicle as backup.
Holy shit, lol

I used to own a pickup with three fuel tanks, held 56 gallons. Cost almost $25 to fill it up at that time.
The service trucks in Wyoming oil patch run on propane for maximum range as everything is so far apart.

Anymore EV FUD you want to share?
I'm not anti-EV.

BUT, I think transportation would become unnecessary in the future anyway.

AI will overpower us and plug our bodies into their electric grid for generating power and our brains into the Matrix. All human suffering and environmental pollution will end. And no, there won't be any Zion. The Wachowski weirdos had to create that to give legs to their story. AI will seek out and terminate any rebellious unplugged humans. Earth will finally be the Paradise it was meant to be.

Then why couldn't you figure out the the youtube clip was full of BS?

And I saw a youtube clip about people being restricted to charge their cars at home only during certain time periods at night to avoid overloading the power grid. And then there was this discussion going on about what will happen to these EV owners during a hurricane when electricity isn't exactly flowing at peak capacity and they have to evacuate with their lowly charged EVs. Gasoline cars owners will feel blessed the

EV owners could have a generator at their home, or solar power with something like a home battery. So not sure how they would be completely SOL. Anyway, maybe we should plan vehicle purchasing for extremely rare use cases?
Or maybe we should evacuate people with busses and trains, not individual cars. I've known multiple people in Houston that have evaced, with each person taking a separate car, then bitched about traffic.

Yes, also that. I considered stating something on these lines, but didn't want to derail too much.

Also, we could build in less evacuation-prone areas with some modest density increases, but here we are...

We need to blame Elon for cutting prices? If you are an early adapter you have to assume prices will drop as supply goes up.

I agree he lied through his teeth about the robotaxi crap.

It was a point of view. You don't have to hate everything that doesn't gel with your worldview.

Found this: https://par.nsf.gov/servlets/purl/10189383

I've only read the title. The clip was probably related to that. It was a YT short and can't seem to find it.

Did you read this paper? This paper makes the same assumption that the power grid is static and it isn't. If EV Adoption moved beyond 45% in FL the power grid would need to be updated. Well the PowerGrid is constantly updated all the time.
FYI - I don't hate everything that doesn't gel with my worldview but I hate BS and call it out when I see it.

In particular, we ask if the current power supply is sufficient andcapable to support EV evacuation prior to the landfall of hurricanes.

If the EVoccupancy rate in Florida were under 45%, the current power network would still function well under the Irma evacuation scenario.

Yes, this is a dumb argument. Sure, the current grid is not capable of supporting widespread EVs but we should upgrade the grid regardless of EVs!

Agreed. There's a huge amount of power loss in the transmission portion of our current grid. An infrastructure upgrade would mean less waste everywhere.

Borderline?!
He's certainly an arsehole as well as anything else.
That is the name of the mental illness.

https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/top...sorder,impact their relationships with others.

Borderline personality disorder is a mental illness that severely impacts a person’s ability to manage their emotions. This loss of emotional control can increase impulsivity, affect how a person feels about themselves, and negatively impact their relationships with others. Effective treatments are available that can help people manage the symptoms of borderline personality disorder.

Doesn't Texas outlaw functional buses and trains? Mass transit is for communists. Every decent red blooded American knows this

Both are pricks and very successful. Larry's been a ruthless CEO before and Jensen is one now.
As consumers, we may not like Nvidia's 40-series pricing and product releases. Thankfully you can vote with your wallet and buy AMD or even Intel instead. You have no inherent right to the newest Nvidia GPUs at 2019 era prices. If you want to say their current roadmap is unfriendly to gamers, then fine. I don't think that makes Huang a prick. They're selling every AI chip they can produce at spectacular margins, and consumer GPUs are just a side business nowadays.

Ellison OTOH has been doing his thing for decades. Musk has a solid rap sheet and is coming on strong in recent years. :p

I guess we should call Tim Cook a "prick" too because he's continued the infamous "Apple tax?"

If you have better evidence that Huang is a prick, I'm all ears.

Musk is going to sue the ADL.

I mean the guy literally launched X by reinstating the world's most famous current Nazi, Kanye, and unbanned every Nazi he could as well.

Musk is just total scum. I really hope that piece of shit gets knocked off his pedestal and eats dirt. He deserves it as much as Trump or any of the GQP.

I see this going really badly for Musk. Like he must know that they just need to find a bunch of unmoderated tweets that are anti Semitic to blow his case up and, let's face it, whether you love or loathe Musk it's not going to be difficult to find a lot of those tweets.

Gas stations also rely on electricity for pumping gas, and fuel shortages are well known during times of emergencies and evacuations.
After the freeze in Texas I had to wait for 45 minutes to get gas for my generator at the only working gas station in several miles.

Coming back home after Hurricane Ike there basically wasn’t gas for days. Nor was there power for days in some areas either.

For any major weather related event you could be without gas, electricity, or both.
