This pretty much destroyed Twitter for me.
Same. I originally signed up to follow the usual hardware leakers but it's been devolving into flame wars, tribalism, and ceaseless shilling as of lately. This is a perfect opportunity to just ditch it all together.

If this is true, and the whole "force login for everything" is causing a DDoS, it's a pretty good self-own. IIRC Reddit faced something similar after a lot of communities turned private.

If Elon really wanted to make money instead of burn it, he'd get his head out of his ass and do what Willem Dafoe did in 1985..

I was a kid then and I still think it stands the test of time!

44 billion is a lot to spend just to be bitchy. I guess the very rich really are different.

The rate limiting apparently has to do with them trying to cut hosting costs drastically. They're not paying their bills.

The only available explanations for this issue are either Musk's extremely short sighted cheapness or his simply massive incompetence. Or some combination of the two.

Half surprised the lenders haven't broken down the doors and canned him trying to save whatever they've got left before the whole place goes to zero. He's got to be some kind of violation of his debt agreements.

Reading some tech reporting on the subject, it has to do with how they implemented the "fix" to prevent the un-logged in masses from seeing tweets causing excessive traffic to their hosting backend which increased costs. If you're familiar with AWS (and other similar hosts), some of their services have associated costs with each interaction (read/write) that takes place. It can ramp up pretty quickly if you fuck up and code it poorly. Which is exactly what this sounds like.

So, they ration the user based as a result until they can fix the glitch they caused with their unnecessary change. I'd call this an own goal where they also managed to kick themselves in the dick, all while paying for it to happen.

How is head count and server performance connected? Do people actually operate servers like a piece of heavy equipment? As load's change is there some action they take to adjust the equipment?
Hey now, don't think too hard or you might burn out your one good brain cell.

The only server I ever had anything to do with was for playing TFC way back when. I loaded the OS and a few other apps, took it into the semi local server farm and plugged it into a rack. Never did anything after that cept play TFC on it.

They know it won’t be long before he refuses to pay and grabbing the company now is better than later before he can complete its destruction. Either way this thing is going to supplant the AOL Time Warner tie up as the worst acquisition disaster in US history.

But then the evil elites would be silencing free speech!
The world's biggest fraudster planned ahead on that one too.

The Bungie Destiny 2 servers are having issues today. Their main status reporting tool is twitter. Sounds like they will be moving away from twitter since a good portion of their paying customers are not going to make an account just to see status reports when stuff breaks.

Since I don't have a Twitter account, the only thing I see on Twitter now is:

"Something went wrong. Try reloading."

We really need to move away from posting twitter links for information.

So...does anyone think Linda Yaccarino is regretting taking the Twitter CEO job?

-Sounds like a dream job so long as compensation isn't too closely tied to performance.

You make bank while everyone and their dog knows that Musk is the one really responsible for burning down the company.

Hang out 2-3 years however long it takes for Twitter to get driven into the dirt, then move on to the next executive position with "experienced leadership for extreme situations" emblazoned across the top of your CV.
