I love seeing this asshole bleeding copious amounts of money. :)

I like this piece at the end

“Insider contacted Twitter for comment, but the the company no longer responds to requests from the media.”

Lol, no shit, musk is too busy cozying up to conservatives and their dictators across the globe.

So giving more lies to Space Karen's free speech nonsense, Twitter is restricting a pro-choice campaign ad.

Elmo is turning worse than Rupert… What a shitstain on humanity.

I find more than a little humor in this. When conservatives were being censored on twitter the response was "tough shit". Now that Musk gets to decide what he want's to call free speech he's a monster.

I never much cared for Musk, and I view twitter as a societal cancer, so I do get just a little guilty pleasure out watching all the gnashing of teeth and shaking of fists. Yes, it's petty, but we all have a little mean streak.

Except conservatives weren't being censored on Twitter, the Jan 6th hearing revealed that Twitter bent over backwards to let Trump and others continue to post even though they were constantly violating TOS. Unless you think shit stains like Alex Jones were banned because of their "conservative" views.

While Elmo can do whatever he wants with Twitter it’s important to remember that conservatives were never being censored on it - they were just lying about that and expecting other people to indulge their persecution fantasies. Conservatives just couldn’t stand the same rules being applied to everyone and demanded special treatment.

What people are pointing out here is Musk’s hilarious hypocrisy. When he decided to let Nazis back on Twitter he claimed it was out of a desire for free speech. Turns out it was really because he likes Nazis.

Quite a few seem to think they were indeed censored. Since I haven't done an in depth study of the issue I have no factual knowledge to share.
Bottom line is that it's Elon's ball, his yard, and his game. He's the God Emperor of twitter and can do with it as he pleases. If that bothers you don't visit, it's a solution I've successfully employed for many years.

Of course you do, we all see the side of you that craves idols more than your own freedom.

Before : Mass market according to democratic capitalistic mechanics decided what went on Twitter.
After : One dude, a billionaire the richest person on the planet, goes : You're doing free speech wrong, here let me force my ideas upon you. (hint, its not free speech).

And to the surprise of no one, the crowd that cheered at solid golden cast idols of Trump cheers their own demise on again, all in the name of "own the libs".

What the fuck would you do if "the libs" one day decided not to save your asses no more?

Yes Greenman. We all see the stupid. Well, most of us do.

OK, Musk is a hypocrite. I didn't vote for him, I've never given him a dollar, I don't own stock in any of his company's. If you don't like his game don't play it. Boycott twitter. The world would be a better place if everyone did.

You're an idiot. You clearly haven't understood a single word I've said and reached a conclusion that fits your need to be vindicated.

Right but thinking something is true does not make it true. For example quite a few conservatives think the 2020 election was stolen despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

In case you want actual data on the issue though here it is. Conservatives were treated absolutely fairly by Twitter.

Actually that’s not true - conservatives before Elon got preferential treatment.

Elon can do what he wants with his platform though, yes. He does have some modest amount of residual value he hasn’t destroyed yet, after all.

You have to admit it’s more than a little funny that conservatives spent years lying about being censored on Twitter and claimed it was in defense of free speech and yet they say nothing when liberals are censored on it.

Control of speech by the right, more specifically by the rich, is the norm. That's what the right _mean_ by "free speech". In buying Twitter Musk is just ensuring it conforms to that norm.

You touch on a valid point - really, the problem is lazy journalists (and other professional media types) who have got into the habit of relying on Twitter as both a source of stories and a means of propagating them. As that includes a lot of "liberal" journalists, it is kind of up to them to stop doing that and get back to proper work. Hopefully Twitter will then die a death (with the bonus of causing Musk a significant financial hit).

Elon bought the ball, the yard and the game so he could kill the most useful and important part of Twitter which was that journalists from around the world could report factual information about their local investigations and try to expose them to a wider global stage. He is not in any way interested in free speech, he is using his money and the power of the platform to buy some adulation from really shitty people and promote a really shitty world view of exclusion and chaos, while bowing to authoritarian wishes from every shitty authoritarian government.

I take issue with the characterization of journalists as lazy, as the larger problem is that investigative journalism is unfortunately a money losing proposition that was once considered valuable enough that it was subsidized by the entertainment programs and ad dollars of the sponsors, but maximizing shareholder dividends has cut the financial support to the point where despite massive profits at the parent corp. newsrooms are still being cut. Bell Canada for example:
while simultaneously seeing an 8.7% increase in media profits.
