I do find it very ironic when Boomer's complain about ObamaCare(Socialized Medicine) as they sit and enjoy the benefits of MediCare.

They paid into it their entire lives they should be entitled to it.

As far as I'm concerned once people turn 65 and retire (both have to happen) they should no longer need to pay any taxes. They've paid their dues into society 10 times over, now let them enjoy the last few decades of their lives with whatever money they managed to save up.

That's ridiculous. You're lumping billionaires and impoverished folks into a single camp based on nothing but age.

I don’t think you are versed enough in this topic to discuss it with anyone. This isn’t about what boomers are doing now (although I’m sure we could discuss more current policies they supported), it’s about what they’ve done for the last 50 years policy wise via the people they elected.

Since when is saving money a bad thing? They worked for that money, it's their right to "hoard" it if they want to. If they are retired they also have limited income so it's the smart thing to do in order to have an emergency fund.
It is amazing how a dipshit can take a discussion about boomers manipulating govt policy in order to jack up real estate prices (and otherwise fuck over later generations) into some nonsense about someone supposedly said something that could -- only by the furthest stretches of hyperbole -- be construed as saying that saving money is bad.
JFC dude..

They really think that jacking up housing prices by using the government to ban new housing production is just savvy investment and prudent saving.

The boomers are the worst generation in US history but it seems they have convinced themselves their selfishness was just market forces at work.

Anyway. No. Its not their "right". Everything we have right now, look around you, all your possessions, technological marvel of modern society.... Its shoulders. Shoulders all the way down man. Parents. Grand parents. Grand grand...... Shoulders all the way down.

If just ONE level says, fuck it and fuck that dude standing on top of me. I am gonna trip this motherfucker. It all goes tits up.

Tits up.

Seems relevant to the discussion

Interesting. I think the same dynamic is happening here also. Odd complication in the way generational politics overlaps with racial politics. And both are further mixed with class, culture, and geography in complicated ways (here, as in the US, different generations have geographically-segregated themselves). I keep trying to resist making it all about "the Boomers" but then keep getting pulled into ranting about them myself.

Politics is so much easier when it's purely about class. By definition in that situation you just need to appeal to the interests of the majority. None of this complicated juggling of different group interests and coping with different axes of power simultaneously.

Are you serious?! You think people are not entitled to the money they worked for?! So what do you want, actual communism? Because that's what it sounds like. Not sure what the rest of that word salad is.

There would be no incentive to work if people were not entitled to keep their money so everything we have, well who would actually build it? The higher the taxes are the less people want to work, because why bother if the government gets most of it. Inflation also goes out of control as companies need to charge more to compensate for taxes. Nobody benefits from higher taxes. If you think it means more services and "free" stuff I have a free government funded bridge and lake front property in the sahara desert to give you, comes with several butlers that do everything for free.

Also be careful what you wish for, because when they roll out CBDC that's exactly how it's going to work, you will not be able to save money as the funds will expire. Is this really what you want? Chrystia Freeland even hinted that she wants to do that. It's a completely insane way of thinking or governing and I hope next election the liberals are ousted because they are getting more and more radical. It's why I am strongly against the great reset and agenda 2030 as the goal is for us to be under very tight grip of government and own nothing, so not being allowed to save money could very well be part of that. They may even start to go after land because they will see that as "tied up money". They're already doing it to farmers in the Netherlands.

If you want more taxes you are free to pay more, the government does take donations.

You really need to step away from the internet for like 20 years.

Sometimes a break can be good, and maybe ignorance is bliss when not being informed of what's happening, but reality is everything being pushed right now is a recipe for disaster and serious loss of basic freedoms and quality of life. Worse is that people like you guys cheer it on as it's happening or even want more of it. We need less government not more.

This is your problem. You are unable to judge “what is being pushed”.
