Elon is wrong, he isn't in a position to refute what the officials have said. However he is welcome to express his opinion even if it is wrong and makes him look like a A&&hole.
Problem is this guy has a lot of influence, compared to ordinary people with opinions.

New non-CEO. Apparently sufficiently somewhat wingnutish enough, But I hear Musks conspiracy sycophants are melting down that she's a woman, is pro VAX and a member the WEF. So, she must be an evil globalist. Presumably they are part of the baby-eating cabal.

I'm going with scapegoat if shit implodes. Not much actual power, just a figurehead. Let's be real, Musk is still in charge, calling the shots. He's just running it through a mouthpiece now. She's there for advertising, I guess.

I’m expecting a pregnancy announcement soon. Bet the child’s name is already AI generated.

And what about this free speech grifting!? What 'free speech'? You mean the free speech to talk about Mastodon or Blue Sky? Or mean things toward Musk. There is not now nor was there ever a commitment to free speech at this Twitter.

This move is all about trying at getting Twitter to make money. I also don't doubt he'll become much more hands off for 2 reasons, he doesn't enjoy it and wants to be able to just go back to shitposting and being fluffed by 13 year old boys, and even he recognizes that he's a negative for Twitter. She'll keep from being "woke" and that's good enough for him (plus he legit thinks being just simple whore capitalist will resolve all issues).

Twitter is now suppressing the accounts of Turkish opposition leaders right before the election.

As Yglesias mentions I can only imagine how scandalous the next set of Twitter Files will be! Surely there will be an investigation of Twitter collaborating with authoritarians to suppress dissent, right?

…right?

Agile censorship!

Agile Free Speech for Me but Not for Thee!

Matthew Yglesias :

As I’ve been saying all along, the big problem with Twitter and free speech is that Musk has a much more significant business as the main shareholder of a major international car company that needs to curry favor with various regimes.

He nailed it ... That’s just one way that Elon is compromised.

Musk is so stupid it beggars belief. Doesnt he realize that muting opposition tweets in compliance with an authoritarian regimes request basically sets an example to other authoritarian regimes that they can have their way with twitter too?

Taking down naked pictures of Hunter Biden? Corruption of Twitter. Censoring Turkey’s political opposition? Just fine.

Welp, who knew Free Speech Absolutist was only concerned with his own free speech.

Rich guys own media outlets in order to promote their own personal and class interests and to suppress the speech of anyone they seem as a danger to those interests. Whether Murdoch and the Barclay brothers or going back to Lord Beaverbrook. And the more they strike mock-heroic postures about 'absolute free speech' the more full of **it you know they are.

There's no such thing as free speech under capitalism...speech is a commodity to be bought and sold...though I have to admit it seems doubtful if there's any such thing as 'true free speech', full stop, whatever the system. Which is why those who puport to believe in the most absolute version of it are invariably liars.

That's been evident for quite while but it's nice to see him so explicitly spell it out and that he is so easily intimidated by authoritarian figures/governments.

I think musks agenda with buying twotter is clearly more made up as he was forced to buy it after thinking he could keep engaging in his pump and dump bullshit until they finally called his shit.
He's very successfully pumped TSLA for years, what's the case for pumping and dumping TWTR?

Besides, although the contractual $1B break-up fee had specific verbiage that would not have applied; Elon was always welcome to gather up all the lawyers and negotiate an expensive break up. "Everyone always has a number" and it was speculated that Twitter's board would likely have accepted somewhere in the ballpark of $3B-$5B to let Elon walk away. Perhaps it's a bit higher than that because Elon's summertime 2022 antics truly harmed Twitter's business and thus the Twitter board was at that point dying to close the signed deal at way higher than market value.

But we know that his hubris would have never allowed a simple $4B pay-off to walk away with his tail between his legs.

Old Twitter used to regularly challenge these things in court, often winning. Elon did fire the entire team that used to challenge things like this in court. Oh well, I don't think Elons new Twitter could have the same victory in Turkish courts by just emailing out a pile of shit emoji.

Like Trump...Musk is vocally willing to be beholden to authoritarian despots for money and ideology. Saudi Arabia is the second largest shareholders of Twitter and they put people in jail for tweeting.

Elon got threatened with sanctions by a high profile WEF member a while back if he allows full free speech, guessing he's caving to them. Sanctions against him would be bad for SpaceX and Tesla so I kinda don't blame him but it would be nice to see him have a bigger spine and tell them to F off. The new CEO is part of WEF as well, wonder if he got his hand forced, or what. He could also very well be controlled opposition. Always need to be on high alert with people like him. As much as I tend to support him I don't exactly trust him 100% either. Billionaires, millionaires and business people in general don't get there by being nice to everybody.

This was explained to people before musk bought Twitter, the concern was that because musk had business with certain undemocratic nations that he would not be able to maintain twitters availability to opposition to authoritarian governments. Looks like the concerns were warranted.

Capitalism wins again at the expense of democracy but you don’t care about that do you?
