Not to shift the topic but, his Texas neighbors are unhappy.

I'd really like to know the justification for no flame diverter and water suppression system. Seems like pretty small costs in the scheme of things and ignoring lessons learned a long time ago.

One of the more annoying things lately is posts from people I follow on my alt showing up on my regular feed. That didn’t used to happen.

Elon's one of those people who thinks he can reinvent the wheel and make it better. It's super annoying because in a couple instances he actually did, and we're all reaping the benefits of that, but as a result (or part of his personality) he also does some really stupid shit.

Yeah, my daughter, who still has her Twitter account was telling me that after he removed notifications to show if someone was either being retweeted into the timeline or somebody you followed was responding. Random tweets from random people ended up in her feed.

Just a whole lot of glitches happening these days that didn't used to. Getting hit with a random post from my quite NSFW alt when I'm innocently browsing my regular feed is sort of inconvenient.

Elon is Fry in Futurama in the Mother's Day episode when he makes the oval wheel (to paraphrase): "Wouldn't it better if it was round?" "It's my invention, we'll do it my way!"

Heard Maher was gargling Elon's ballsack on his show Friday. Funny to see Maher fans shocked as if that isn't who he has always been.

It’s not who he’s always been. It’s who he’s transformed into as he goes deeper down the social media rabbit hole. Watching him is like watching someone in real time become radicalized/indoctrinated. If I had to pin point when his transformation started I would say it happened during his solar install drama and then Covid. So we have a victim coupled with stress along with deep social media interaction.

The weird thing, to me, is that some of these people dont get, dont see, the connect where right wing media transforms cancel culture 1:1 with "#wokeism" and in the process sweeps everything half baked racist slight in under the rock with cancel culture. I am pretty sure Maher dont see it. I am fairly certain Musk does. One is forgivable the other is not.

I think the primary reason Maher has not evolved and the world around him just passed his ass is cause of the lifestyle he has chosen. Your kids keep you on your toes.

While I like Maher just fine he’s definitely become a little unhinged in recent years.

Regardless, I enjoyed listening to him talk with Elon about how important free speech is and then immediately asking what Elon is going to do to stop people from being mean to him on Twitter.

I don’t think it’s lifestyle but rather an entitlement attitude. When you think you are entitled you see the world differently. You no longer see the disgruntled worker as just someone having a bad day or who hates their job because of Shit pay and shitty management, instead what you see is a person that didn’t give you good service. The city that can’t get your solar approved is no longer about being under resourced, under staffed, and overwhelmed but rather as a slight against you because you think they don’t value you. Making a large donation to a presidential candidate you deem worthy and capable of generational change becomes about being ignored and disrespected, how can the now president not give you some personal time.

These “slights” add up and couple that with a feeling of being irrelevant and extreme stress and you’ve got someone ripe for radicalization (meaning a complete change in beliefs).

The self awareness level of both men is basically zero.

I think the points Maher has been making about so-called "wokeness" are being trivialized and/or mischaracterized here. In the real world, you aren't either someone who agrees with every idea of CRT or every slogan of activists, or else you're a racist.

Maher has some valid points about the damage that certain ideas on the far left are doing to the democrats politically. He sees the creeping facsim on the right, and he wants the left to improve its messaging. For example, the use of the phrase "white privilege." In the old days, when we discussed racism, it was to point out the black people were disadvantaged. Now it's to say that white people are privileged. It's two different ways of looking at the same thing. But one way focuses attention on the victim to garner sympathy, while the other just pisses off poor and working class white people who don't feel in the least bit "privileged." It's bad politics.

My main issue with Maher was the anti-vax crap. I have no idea why he took that turn.

He took that turn because he was always primed to take that turn. He's always been a bigot against Muslims.

Democrats don't think Muslims should be persecuted. He takes that fact and twists it into "Democrats support Muslim nations that follow Sharia Law. See, Democrats don't really support women's rights."

It's stupid. He has always been a stupid man who thinks he's an intellectual. I literally can't believe people are surprised he would fall for antivax shit or woke hysteria. Most of his audience are people that have been programmed to hate Democrats their entire lives but recognize that Republicans are batshit.

It is who he has always been. He has been a bigot since before he was ever famous.

I watch his show nearly every week and I think he has definitely gone in this Elon Musk excessively online direction where he sees wokeness at every turn and that it’s this dominant cultural phenomenon on the left. Maybe he hangs in different circles than me but I have no idea what he’s talking about.

Fair enough. My watching of him is more spotty. I doubt I've seen much of him in at least the past 6 months. My comments were based on criticisms he's made of the left's identity politics in the past. I found many of them reasonable. If he's going off the deep end right now, then that's how it is.

That's pretty much it. I did like him because he wasn't afraid to call out the left when some of the left acted too wacky with identity politics and super political correctness, but that time is long gone, now he is like a musk woke culture warrior. It's all encapsulated well by this ridiculous fawning interview of Elon.

Comedians have always been bitching about what is now called "woke", and its not just right wing adjacent people like was it Morten Downy Jr (or whomever the dipshit that died from lung cancer after he spent years blowing smoke in peoples' faces; or the one douchebag that used to wear leather like the wannabe gay biker - d'oh Andrew Dice Clay) and slimy sacks of shit (like Louis C.K.). Most comedians have been bitching about nebulous "cancel/censorship/etc" in profoundly fucking stupid ways because most of them are full of shit hypocrites, that think they should be a protected class, allowed to say whatever fucked up stuff they want. Only for us to find out they're often really fucked up and deserve faaar more criticism than they get.

Maher has been a fucking nutjob for years, long before COVID or even social media he was spouting some pretty goddamned ridiculously stupid shit.

Any time spent discussing Maher is a total waste. He's what Jordan Peterson aspires to be, but his audience is too stupid for even that level of discourse so he's stuck doing the right wing clown routine. Maher is jealous how easily right wing idiots throw money and seems to be seeking to get in on that.
