Exactly. As I said they need to have skin in the game to act appropriately.
Again I am not sure of the solution, we have tons of smart people who can figure that out and/or simply modify or evaluate if the change is working, if not change something else and allow something else.

In what way? I haven't really seen any coherent alternative proposed.

Just a lot of "I don't like what social media is doing so we need to stop it".

In reality a lot of the things on social media that people don't like, are NOT illegal, so even if they were partially liable it wouldn't halt those behaviors.

Yes that happens because of the rabbit hole. They see the content that you're watching and then feed you tons of other content similar to it the other people like that watched and engaged and keep watching. You start watching a couple Q anon on videos now you're inundated with them.

If there's anything beyond that then yes I think they should be liable for that. But not for algorithms that just do that.

As far as Facebook and other companies spying on you. I complete 100%. The privacy laws in this country are a fucking joke and we could at least take a little lesson from Europe who is at least a little more evolved on this stuff. And they should be even stricter too. But here our rights as digital consumers are virtually zero.

But that's separate from recommending content that someone started watching.
The privacy and recommendations go together, though. They know everything about you and can micro target you with things that they know will capture you. Yeah, FB and YT do it for the money, but there are truly bad actors out there doing it for the purpose of harm.

There's is a long line up of companies and news publications now saying they won't pay Twitter a penny since it doesn't mean anyone is verified. Only that they pay for longer tweets and to be able to edit. Great business model Space Karen.

Elon would have fired Elon a long time ago.

I wonder what level of awareness he has of the magnitude of his error in buying Twitter. Well, I guess at least he seems to realize around $20 billion of his mistake.

It's more than that, he lost GDP of Greece.

20 Billion is nothing. Besides Elons own supreme ability to fuck twitter up, a nuclear bomb is going off in slow motion, AI is going to severely fuck social media up. Like badly. I dont think people really understand how big a deal the chatgpt revolution is, is going to be. A true paradigm shift.
Social media is about to get fucked.

It's a move to drum up profit. It's said the verification will be tied to a mobile phone number.... that's never been done before it should keep all the bots out. /s

Late for that. Mouth breathing morons ruined social media after friendster dried and myspace came up from the ashes.

d of weird system do they have where charitable donations are taken directly from paychecks? That is ripe for abuse/error. My company has a portal where you submit a request for matching, no reason to involve payroll into this process.
My company allows payroll deductions as well.

So apparently Twitter is not removing the old verified checks, just mixing them in with the Twitter Blue clowns in the hope that since people can’t tell the difference it will be a wash.

Lol.

It's almost like they tried to make it even worse.

It seems Elon thinks by mixing the two he can remove the stigma of paying for Twitter. I suspect what this will do is destroy trust in the platform.

Twitter Blue was a stupid idea from the start.

I'm not entirely sure if this is being done to remove the stigma or if he suddenly discovered they could not pull the legacy checks efficiently/quickly. Maybe both.

Anyway I've never seen so much work for a few million dollars of revenue when he's chased literal billions out the door never to return.

Too many big names said they're not paying and dont give a fck about it. NYT, WaPo, LA Times, journos, celebs, etc. The spoofing of some of those names by any shmuck willing to pay $11/mo has stripped any value of it already.

Someone else pointed out that for places like the New York Times the more likely answer is to show that content means more than verification.

He's been calling the NYT twitter feed nothing but propaganda.

I saw that piece of shit coming a mile away while most people were calling him just kind of an eccentric super smart nerd billionaire for quite some time.
