The H1B Visa program needs a serious overhaul. Big one being that as long as you maintain employment, with reasonable gaps allowed, there should be no detriment for changing jobs.

H1B visa holders are treated so bad by so many companies. This is would force companies to actually pay H1Bs are fair market salary.

Yep. That would help a lot. Basically by tying the employee's visa to one company, that company now not only becomes their employer, but controller of their entire life, and they leverage that for $$$, like profit seeking capitalist assholes do, when they have few other values.

Musk was retweeting Tucker Carlson's J6 video asking if it should be removed from Twitter. I replied that they should cherry pick video of what the individuals in the video did to gain entrance to the apparent peaceful halls of the Capitol. I'm sure a bunch of people would STFU then. But Carlson and Musk seem to be cut from the same cloth and both are scum.

Besides, there's already Mastodon if someone wants a Twitter alternative.
100%. Or post.news, though Meta has money, and is likely to be able to pull something off, and anything that cuts into Twitter get's a green stamp from me. Meta is already tanking on numerous other fronts, I say let them eat each other, its glorious.

I vehemently disagree with your proposed solution. The entire rationale behind the H1B Visa program is that US employers cannot hire domestic qualified workers because they are unavailable, and that to remain competitive the US employers should be permitted to hire foreign workers instead. Rather than prop up the HIB program we should focus on improving the skills of the domestic work force. Maybe something as drastic as actually having the corporations and ultra wealthy to actually pay taxes so regular kids (and their parents) don't have to impoverish themselves for decades to get a decent education. I'm sick and tired of subsidizing the wealthy.

Programs like HIB should be limited to such star and exceptional prospects as Werner von Braun, etc.

I agree and I do not know the solution other than programs like H1B should be used in a limited & appropriate manner.

I agree with you on education. I, however, disagree with you on immigration. H1Bs allow us to steal the top talent from other countries while allowing us to grew our economy. The problem with them is they are highly abused by rich employers. If the rules changed so the visa wasn't tied to a specific employer, and was more like "pre-greencard" I think a lot of the abuse would end.

Unfortunately Mastodon is not a viable alternative, because if you post on a server and that server owner decides to shut it of, tough luck... Post.news, yes, that is good.

Yea, if they were not captive to their employer and had longer to find a new job the dynamic would be different. I also think that after the 6 years are up holders in good legal standing should be offered permanent resident status.

I was seriously thinking of getting back in when the stock was down to $100 bucks, but I hated owning that damn stock even though I made good coin on it (bought the IPO). I would have almost doubled in about 5 mo's if I had but I can't stand what social media is doing to this country.

Whoopsie. Oh noes, big bad EU is a Democrat coming for the repubs. Or that is just bs and they just like their rules followed

It’s something that would be trivial for any major tech platform/app to comply with—if they hadn’t gutted their development staff.

Well, any bets on whether this actually happens? It's certainly a decision that one could make...

As with all Musky things, it'll come with so many caveats that it'll be worthless.

It will be amusing though if some geek exploits Musk's ignorance to push for shit that Musk would normally be totally against, but because they knew how to frame things so that Musk got enamored with them for being smart.

I have a hunch though that Musk was like "wait, other people will develop software and you don't have to pay them?" and thinks he's stumbled onto some genius way to cut the software developers.

I've said all along that EU is going to be harder for him to deal with regarding all his shenanigans.

I think he thinks it won't matter because look at China or Russia banning things but people still access them or he's betting on Starlink making it so that they can't block it.

People think Musk is bad now, wait til Fox's comeuppance over the voting machine lawsuits. Musk will look to fill the void, and he'll look to leverage Starlink as a means of making his shit unblockable.

Trollin a-hole just gotta troll.

How Elon Musk's tweets unleashed a wave of hate - BBC News

I had just finished my investigation into whether Twitter can protect users under Elon Musk's ownership, when - to my surprise - the man himself tweeted about it.
"Sorry for turning Twitter from nurturing paradise into a place that has… trolls," he said in one tweet, posting a screengrab of the report.

"Trolls are kinda fun," Mr Musk said in another reply, in his response to my BBC investigation - Twitter insiders: We can't protect users from trolling under Musk.
The investigation made clear Twitter was never perfect. But it had exposed how hate is thriving under Twitter's new owner. Current and former Twitter employees told me "nobody is taking care of" features designed to protect users from hate and harm.
