Especially when that mammoth vehicle can go 0-60 in ~3s. Not often have we had that combo of speed/size.
While that is safer when coliding with other ICE vehicles, when you will meet another electric behemoth, it wil be 100%carnage. And also anything non-movable, concrete object :)

One of the first Model S accidents I remember reading about (curb weight 4,500+ pounds) was that the guy rear-ended an older-model car. His car got a dent, but the people in the vehicle ahead of him were killed, which was pretty horrible. So the weight is definitely a factor, lugging around all those batteries! But we also drive around dump trucks, busses, 80,000-pound semi-trucks, etc., so it's just a risk of sharing public roads, unfortunately.
Unless the victims were in some ancient econobox, that story doesn't make a ton of sense. I'm sure it happened but the details would be interesting.

The porky Model X notwithstanding, IMHO Tesla cars actually don't weigh too much more than their closest ICE competitors. Many other popular BEVs (at least in the West) weigh substantially more, and that partially explains Tesla's drivetrain efficiency. As A/// mentioned, we need more energy-dense battery tech before this problem is solved.

In news from a month ago, the NTSB figured out how a "driver-less" Tesla killed its two victims. Apparently at nearly 60 mph, the seat belt didn't quite do its job?

That guy is a loon POS. And so many look up to that piece of trash.
He is basically calling Mitch McConnell a democrat and we know the only universe where that rhetoric occurs is in Trumpistan.
I think he is doing a Kanye, the people who used to check him has left his orbit and now he is spinning out of control… Its gonna get worse.

Huh? The guy crawled into the backseat to try and get out. The dude had .15BAC and lost control of the car. So the car was never actually driverless and at least initially he survived the impact until smoke inhalation and fire got him.

Obviously the car wasn't "driver-less," per the NTSB/article! I mis-read it, but I had inferred that he was violently ejected into the backseat by the impact. Instead, despite his severe injuries, the driver unlatched his seat belt and crawled into the back seat. Thanks for clarifying!

WRT to Tesla. When I'm up for buying a new car in a few years - I will happily buy a Tesla if it meets my needs and desires. I don't care that he is a clown on Twitter. Rich guy buys expensive toy - breaks it; news at 11. The only thing I won't buy is a Chinese car (the are already selling in Europe in small numbers). That the extent of my wish to make a political statement (and it's really an economic one).

What baffled me was why would anyone remain when he basically said "Agree to be my slave, or take your severance now". I would have jumped at a chance to escape with severance.

I guess some people are desperate enough to work for a tyrant, and some are Musk simps.
Quite a few of them are on work visas that require them to work at Twitter.

I have no first-hand experience, but the Elantra Hybrid is generally considered the best hybrid in its class (compact, affordable passenger car). Affordable new cars are slim pickings these days so it's basically the Elantra or new Prius; or stretch your budget to a mid-sized sedan.

Hyundai/Kia have been killing it for a while now (excellent cars across many segments), although they are still known for having a terrible dealership network.
You have never driven one then. I will refuse to accept an Elantra as a rental option.

The Elantra Hybrid and the regular Elantra are fairly different when it comes to the driving feel. They have different suspensions and the hybrid has a DCT instead of a CVT. Speaking as an owner of the former, it drives just fine.

I took the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid for a test drive yesterday afternoon. I was surprised about the pep in the engine for a small hybrid. You aren't winning off the line against most cars, but it was fine. Drove well. I'll know tomorrow if I can grab one

The H1B Visa program needs a serious overhaul. Big one being that as long as you maintain employment, with reasonable gaps allowed, there should be no detriment for changing jobs.

H1B visa holders are treated so bad by so many companies. This is would force companies to actually pay H1Bs are fair market salary.
