One thing for sure, it's going to get a lot more interesting.

Wait and see is the way to go here.
I just hope the spread of misinformation can be combated.

I am eyeing that 1.5% chance that this might be an educational journey for Elon. A lesson, and expensive lesson, but a lesson non the less. He can either come out like Thiel

"I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible"

Or something else.

I think it's a lot easier to admit being wrong if you're not having to do it in an ultra-public fashion. Christ, most of the time people can't even admit they're wrong on the Internet despite being anonymous. If (IMO when) Twitter fails, he and his fanatics will claim dirty tricks were used to sell off a diseased nag and that will be the end of the potential learning experience.

My wife and I both just deleted our Twitter accounts. My last and only remaining social media platform. Bye bye!

What Musk wants from this is a platform where the rules of engagement favor him posting as he pleases with no consequences, with stronger consequences for his critics. The removal of moderation guidelines is the obvious overt goal. The less obvious thing will be the addition of stronger real-name requirements to reduce engagement from anonymous people.

When Musk rails about “bots”, he doesn’t care about automated activity. What bothers him is anonymous critics of people in power (such as himself). He hates that anonymous people can roast his dumb ass tweets without being exposed to harassment, so he conflates these people with “bots” and aims to get rid of them. His approach to doing this will be to force people to share more identifying information so they can be exposed to harassment. This shifts the power balance in his favor, since average people don’t command the same resources to defend themselves from stalking, harassment, vexatious litigation, etc.

Musk is pursuing a financially ruinous deal because he’s a terminally online billionaire who rationalizes lighting cash on fire so that he can continue to feel like the smartest guy in the room. He is absolutely petty & narcissistic enough to do that. It remains to be seen whether he’s actually rich enough.

well look at at this way: Musk is addicted to stupidity and assholerly just like Trump. Now, he really has no easy restrictions of running afoul of the SEC when he will, without question, continue trying to manipulate Tesla stock on Twidder. This purchase may have supercharged his expulsion from Tesla to keep the company solvent, which would definitely be good for Tesla.

So who wants to help me startup a competitor.

we can call it twatter, where you can still make an ass of yourself on the internet and publicize it very quicklybut.
The major difference will be some form of content moderation!

Yep, thats my take as well. They gonna go after MSM and this the free press giving no thought to the fact that a free press is a defining pillar in a democracy.

Bringing in Tesla engineers to go over Twitter code is just the height of arrogance. Shows that Musk doesn't know what he's doing on several levels. One, it's going to alienate his twitter tech staff even more than they already are. Two, it's likely that Tesla staff will have no understanding of what they're looking at, and at best it will take thousands of otherwise useful hours from twitter staff to learn them up. It's not a plug and play skill set.

There will probably soon be a motivated pool of ex-twitter employees that understand content moderation and would love to see Twitter fail, and be very happy to work for a competitor.

He also no longer needs a bot army to push his crap posts and make them trend. I logged in last night and my feed was full of his posts even though I've never clicked on him or anyone like him. I follow some Ukraine sources and one dude that takes constructions pictures at Theme Parks.

All this Liberal Diatribe against Musk is very amusing.

Shouldn't that be "all these liberal diatribes"?

Anyway, watching Musk's Twitter fade away to worthlessness will be a lot more amusing. I hope he reinstates Trump - that would surely hasten the decline of the Republican Party into a marginal cult.

While it’s Twitter’s call who they ban or not it’s funny how republicans seem to think getting Trump back on Twitter would benefit them when the opposite is obviously true. It’s another one of those things where they are so obsessed with hating liberals that they can’t see what’s in their own self interest.

I've noticed my twitter feed seems to be different today.

I am seeing A LOT more of the "xxxx follows yyyy" tweets and showing tweets from yyyy who is someone that xxxx follows.

I had never seen this before and now like every other tweet is from someone I don't even follow or care about but it's from someone that someone I follow is following.

Testing a tweet with some nazi extremist right wing misinformation to see if I get suspended:
:p

Why am I not surprised you're an anti-vax idiot who spreads COVID misinformation?

Your Twitter reads like an election denying Qanon qult member page. Holy fucking shit on a shingle.

(Hints: blood NATURALLY clots in cadavers and surgical masks protect others from you, not you from others. That's why SURGICAL STAFF wear them, to provide near 100% protection FOR THE UNMASKED PATIENT from any airborne diseases THE SURGICAL STAFF may be carrying)

Are you seriously this fucking stupid? What next? Flat earth?

It’s kind of amusing you thought it was a good idea to broadcast that you, as an adult, don’t know the difference between sex and gender.
The two terms were interchangeable until recently. The only reason it's been redefined is so that people can advertise their sexual proclivities. It's almost become a badge of honor to advertise one's sexual preferences and force others to acknowledge them by demanding the use of made up pronouns. Those same pronouns are also a method of asserting dominance in a first meeting situation by "correcting" the other person even though you've been greeted respectfully.

Let the flames begin!

I'm tempted in a morbid curiosity kinda way. Like when you drive by a really hideous accident on the interstate.

Go. It's bad. Full on Qanon election denying anti-vax science denialism.

There is a whole bucketload of single digit IQ mindless parrot ridicule fuel in that feed. Holy shit.
