FATTIES WEARING TIGHT CLOTHES MAKE ME HURL Jun 17 2005
By Fiona Cummins
THIN LIZ'S FLAB CHAT CAUSES STORMFILM beauty Liz Hurley caused a storm yesterday by saying only 'slim and toned' women should be allowed to wear tight clothes.
Hurley was asked what she would ban if she was made the 'fashion police' for a day.
She replied: 'Anything that is too small or too tight. I'm sick of seeing flab bulging all over the place.'
The actress and model also had a warning for women wearing mini-skirts this summer.
She said: 'You can be 80 as long as you have slimmish legs firmly encased in thick tights. Bare legs in a miniskirt can look dodgy at any age.'
It's not the first time that Liz, 40, has provoked fury with her words of wisdom about women's figures.
She said she would kill herself if she was 'as fat' as movie legend Marilyn Monroe, who was a size 16.
And she was slated as irresponsible when she admitted she lived off watercress soup to lose weight after the birth of son Damian.
Liz also said her idea of a snack was six almonds or raisins at a time.
Teacher Mary Lynn, 26, was appalled at Hurley's latest comments.
Mary, of London, said: 'Who does she think she is? Marilyn Monroe is one of the most beautiful women of her time, so she was already wrong about that.
'How dare she say what women can and cannot wear. I'll wear whatever I like - it's got nothing to do with her.'
Bingo hall assistant Alison Baker, 33, added: 'I'm a size 14 and I like wearing tight cropped tops. Would Hurley ban me from wearing them?'
In an interview yesterday, Hurley also revealed that her favourite outfit at home is 'one of my silk kaftans and sheepskin boots'.
She added: 'I hate tracksuits as I lived in them during my pregnancy.'
Asked what she would wear on a 'hot date', the actress said: 'Hot pink cashmere and high-heeled black leather boots, or black Versace trousers and a black chiffon top.'
Hurley - former girlfriend of actor Hugh Grant - said she wears 'ravishing underwear' to bed.
And she hates sleeping with the windows shut because her grandmother advised her she would end up looking 'German' if she did.
Asked how good looking she thinks she is on a scale of one to 10, Hurley replied: 'Depends on how much sleep I've had.'
Yesterday, Daily Record fashion stylist Julie Hannah said Hurley had got it wrong by saying big women should steer clear of tight clothes.
She said: 'Big women should be allowed to wear what they want.
'As long as you use common sense and not draw attention to the bad bits and show off your assets, you'll not go wrong
ALISON GALL, 22, a student and shop worker from Glasgow, said: 'I'd heard Liz had launched a swimsuit range but she should make it for everyone, not just skinny people
JOYCE BELL, 53, a housewife from Falkirk, said: 'Hugh Grant was too good for that woman. Every time she says something it's nonsense. I'm not perfect but I'm happy with the way look and I'm a real woman
CHERYL GLEN, 17, a student from Carmyle in Glasgow, said: 'She should have a bit more sense than to say things like this about other women. I don't think it will win her any fans
JOHN WRIGHT, 37, a bank worker from Glasgow, said: 'I don't really think Liz is the perfect woman. What she has said will really hurt some people. Women are all different
ALISON WALKER, 40, a nurse from Cardonald, near Glasgow, wouldn't want to wear Liz's clothing range. She said: 'I'm a big woman and proud of it. I wouldn't want to try on her beachwear, they probably cost a fortune. I've just bought two garments for £17 and I think I'm going to look much better than she does
I see her point, but she could have said it in a more positive light...the comment about Marilyn Monroe was also uncalled for...
I was in Austin, TX two months ago watching the pro volleyball tour and saw several girls (probaly late teens) who were not skinny by any means wearing tight lowrider jeans with the thong exposed at the top with a tank top that exposed several rolls:disgust: (BTW, these girls sat right in front of us on the bleacher seats so you couldn't help but notice)...
guess that is the current fashion or something...
