Elixir Ram? Nforce2 Recommendations?

Im buying a FIC AU13 mobo for my sister, and was wondering what RAM would be good to use with it, it has the Nforce2 chipset.

I dont plan on overclocking it, or running super aggressive memory timings.

I was gonna buy DDR400 RAM even though its only gonna run at 333mhz , since the prices are very close.

I need 1GB of RAM, so was thinking 2x512mb, although the dual channel doesnt seem to really make much of a difference, so I could buy 1 x 1GB and put another 1GB in later. She uses a lot of memory doing video/graphics/sound stuff.

Is there any RAM that you recommend for use with the Nforce2? besides the obvious Corsair, Hyperx, etc.... I dont want to spend THAT much.

I saw some fairly cheap "Elixir" RAM, any experiences with this RAM? Couldnt find any reviews of it on Google.

Thanks
CL

I used some pc2100 elixyr, and got it to run at 333 by bumping the voltage from 2.5 to 2.7. Same for mushkin. I haven't tried any faster ddram with elixyr on the chipset. I just got some pc3500 from aib.com. The 256 meg sticks were only $38 shipped. I can't run them at 400 speed until my new board arrives in a few days. I asked for "winbond" or "hynix" chipsets, but I don't know what they sent me, as the memory came with heat spreaders, which I can't remove easily. I've had pretty good luck with their generic memory.

My suggestion for PC-3200 ram for Nforce 2 boards is here. I have been using a pair of the Buffalo 256 mb sticks of PC-3200 in my AN35N at 200 fsb for several weeks and they are working great. If you are planning on overclocking, the Winbond chips are highly recommended. Perhaps the micron or infineon chips would work as well at default settings, but I am planning to tweak my system even more later, so I went for the sticks with the winbond CH-5 chips.

I've been usiing the non-EL OCZ Performace Series Rev 2 PC3200, and it runs great at 400Mhz, CAS 2!

If you're absolutely certain you won't be upgrading/overclocking in a long time, then the Elixir should be fine. I had some Elixir PC2700 that ran @ PC2700 speeds fine, so that Elixir stuff should definately do PC2700 (333).

That was the only time I ever bought Elixir, and it was for a situation just like yours (the person would never want to overclock their system in a million years).

If you are going to overclock sometime down the road, I'd recommend some cheap Buffalo PC3700 with BH-5 chips, if not the Elixir should be fine.

I bought a stick of PC2700 (256 MBs) about 8 weeks ago at OfficeMax (with Elixir chips on it) and the modual was defective. Not really slaming Elixir because every company puts out some defective RAM moduals. But out of the 8 or 9 sticks of RAM that I've purchased over the past couple of years, the only detective mod I purchased was the one with Elixir chips on it.
