I started a thread on this recently, and got a couple of answers.
I've been playing X2 a little, and so far it seems good, except for some problems, for one thing it seems to demand a very high end CPU, my rig is fairly similar to yours, cept I have 512 MB of RAM and a Radeon 9800, and I find my performance to be somewhat lacking.

Here's the thread

so which of your 7 rigs do you play it on?
i have more ram but not as good a gfx card as you [assuming we have the ram cpu] so what kind of problems you having? it is still playable?
heard that if you turn of realtime shadows you can still play it well with aa on.

i aint touching any games until 7 weeks time so i will rely on ppl like you to recommend the 1 to immerse myself in then : this 1 looks promising!

Grimbergen is my gaming box :)
I don't think the GFX card is the limiting factor, changing the res from 800x600 to 1280x960 made no noticeable difference, aside from looking better.
I think it simply requires either tons of CPU, or lots of memory, it runs fine in most situations, but when there's lots of stuff on the screen, it slows down.

Shadows are off by the way.

yeah i think it is cpu; on the review i read they were running an athlon 3000+ with a 9800xt and still had slow-downs when lots happened.
kinda crap really when you consider their recomendation got a piddly "minimum spec"

i doubt my extra 512mb will make much odds either.

i would be grateful if you could let me know in a few weeks when you are more into the game what you think of it then [strengths and weaknesses]
i know likes and dislikes are subjective but player veiws are more useful than reviews!

cheers
