Elite is adding to its VR support with the SteamVR this holiday. This is a big boost to the SteamVR IMO. Proving it can just as easily work in a sit down environment as well as the moving around the room environments will boost its flexibility.

Elite is already fun and immersive with a DK2. I'm probably going to have both the Vive and Rift, but things like this push the Rift a bit further down on the priority list. The only thing going for it now are some of the exclusives, which I can pass on if need be.

I don't know whether to get the ps4 VR or a SteamVR set. The problem with the steam set for me is that I have to upgrade my computer completely....but I imagine the experience is going to be so much better on PC.

Something like this, is just another reason to go PC for VR.

I'm not really up to speed on the VR stuff but I got to try a Rift release 3 a few weeks ago and I thought the Rift was incredible, although slightly uncomfortable. I'll have to do some research before coming to any conclusions.

As far as Elite goes...I feel very misled by it. I paid like 60 bucks or something for the game (US->GBP) and only got a partial game. It was basically a single player space trucker simulator. They've added minimal things to it since then, and now I have to pay to actually land on the planets. I'm not sure I'm actually going to jump on it right when it launches...I also bought an X-55 HOTAS because I thought the game was super awesome for the first week, but then I realized it was a giant grind fest.

I can understand that. Frontier could've communicated better about the game and their future intentions, although it was all out there when it officially went on sale. It's a full game, just not currently as deep as many would like or that it will ultimately be. Rather than take the approach of CR with Star Citizen, they're making their big game in an incremental release system.

The addition of CQC to Elite is quite fun, but I have found myself playing Arena Commander more lately. I prefer its flight model to Elite's, though Elite is still fun to fly.

Give CQC a shot. If nothing else, I love exploring in Elite and the visuals VR gives makes it that much more awe inspiring. But, I'm a space nerd and really enjoy just exploring space, like in Kerbal.

Did you try the DK2? What software did you experience?

I'm pretty sure the guy who had it said it was DK3? If that's not a thing then it was the 2. I only got to try some sort of intro video thing, a guy narrated a bunch of stuff and talked about the future of VR. I also got to try minecraft for about 30 seconds.

I am soooo tempted to get this at launch, I know Elite would be even more epic with it, just not sure I can afford it. I think...didn't I also read that it's coming out to X-box first because they bought them out? Would suck to have to wait for late 2016 to get an official version of the Rift, but I think that they'll pounce for Christmas.

There is no VR planned for XBox to my knowledge. Maybe you're thinking of the HoloLens perhaps working for it? But it's not VR, it's AR. Rift was bought out by Facebook.

I've had a lot of experience with DK2 (there was no DK3 as far as I know, but there was a limited prototype called Crescent Bay but I don't think it's been for sale like DK2). I haven't owned it, but a guy at work lets me borrow it for a few days at a time. While I reserve judgement until I actually try the commercial version as well as SteamVR, I still think SteamVR/HTC Vive are going more in the right direction. Full room capable, but still does the sit down experience if that's what you're into. I've never found anyone who has used both say the Oculus is better. Then there's StarVR that's still in the prototype phase that has uber FOV and will use the SteamVR API.

Pretty exciting. I don't expect to see Oculus this year though. They've been firm it's a 2016 product. SteamVR is doing a limited launch in a couple months with a full launch shortly after the new year.

Yeah I just looked into it, it had to have been a DK2 that he showed me. Oculus' website is wierd :p

From what I've read they are guesstimating the oculus to come out at ~200$, or at least, much less than a new console. I'll definitely pick one up for that price, I'd love to play 7 days to die on it.
