Yesterday Elijah Wood was on the Stern show. I was initially disinterested - I'm not really a fan - but he turned out to be a hell of a cool guy.

He said one amazing thing: he was paid a flat fee for all three LOTR movies, negotiated in advance. He gets no points or residuals whatsoever.

His salary? Only $1 million for doing all three movies (i.e, $333,000 per film)! That just blows my mind.

Wow...it took 3 years of hard acting to make those movies. 300 grand a year for a movie star like him? Owned.

it was a severe risk for the movie to be made.. huge budget. he was relatively uniknown..totally not a film opener

I don't think he is running around asking for spare change. I'm sure he is just doing great with the amount of money he made. Sometimes money is not all that matters.

before those movies were made, he had a name, but he was FAR from a star. he was probably grateful for the work, and lots of known actors would have killed for that role at any salary. no doubt he wasn't in much of a position to negotiate, anyway. what most people don't understand about contracts with big studios, whether movie or music, is that there are a million other talented people out there who also want the role and would work just as hard, so unless you are already an A-list star, the studios would rather pass you by and save the money upfront than roll out the red carpet for Joe Everyman. you've got nothing to bargin with.

Not necessarily. As has already been pointed out he was not a star before the film so I'ts not likely even the worlds best agent could have gotten him a better deal. Ask for too much and they will just make a star out of someone else instead.

he got a lot more than money for his acting. He got a hella opportunity, and you can guarantee he is /will be getting a lot more than that for all future roles.
