Eli Roth's History Of Horror - The movie 'Alien' was essentially about "marauding penises"?

I never noticed it before watching the Eli Roth show and posting about it here, but my eyes have now really been opened.

All these years, I liked the Alien franchise not because it was about nearly unstoppable killer aliens, but about wieners. I think it's time I had a very uncomfortable talk with my wife. ;)

I've seen some HR Geiger paintings & never once thought, jeez, that looks like a giant cock or whatever.

Any thoughts on the Geiger picture featured and discussed on this link? (Was going to embed it, then thought maybe it's actually a bit NSFW and doing so might violate some forum rule)

(Of course, it's apparently really all about trains!)

I mean I'm not sure he could be more obvious without labels!

I take it that's Geiger's artwork?

I never heard of him or sought out anything that wasn't in the films. From what was shown in the films, I never thought of penises.

Now I'm wondering if Geiger and Robert Mapplethorpe hung out a bit, and had some really interesting conversations. :p

To be fair, the account I vaguely remember from decades ago was that the implied sexual stuff was supposed to operate below the level of concious perception, that it was all about creating a sense of unease and increasing the creep-factor. While that probably applies to things like the architecture of the alien craft, a lot of it, it seems to me, somewhat exceeded this remit.

I don't like his artwork particularly but it's work a look if you like the Alien movies. He is pretty much responsible for all the alien stuff.

Did you guys know that the original alien costume actually has a real human skull inside it? Early versions were going to have eye sockets.

Apparently prior to Aliens the SFX team asked that the original costume be shipped to them. When they opened up the box they were blasted with a rancid stench that made them gag. They had used so many organic parts for the original costume that had rotted over the years it was a disgusting mess. The aliens in Aliens mostly just wore simple unitards with a headpiece and tail and relied upon darkness. I never noticed much of a difference.

Outside of learning about what was posted in my OP, I just realized that this artist did the album artwork for Danzig's 'How The Gods Kill' album.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danzig_III:_How_the_Gods_Kill

I had that album when it came out in 1992, and never paid any attention to it being connected to the Aliens art.
I used to rock out to that back in high school.
Brain Salad Surgery by ELP had a cover by him as well.

You haven't looked at enough Giger then.

I've seen some of his artwork, not a lot. Probably more pre-internet with album covers or in magazines. It's just not something i seek out.

Well, now that we're talking about the subject, i see one thing. I'm not sure what i would have "seen" last week.

Prometheus has a very long one that could be interpreted as a penis, several feet, that forces its way into your mouth and goes down into the stomach. Gives me the creeps thinking about that scene. That doesn't need a spoiler does it?

Is Eli Roth actually in the show? The premise sounds like something I might would be interested in if it wasn't for that. Then again, this might be more up his alley since him and Rob Zombie seem to think just being horror movie fans is enough to make horror movies (which it is, but not enough to make them enjoyable; I'll give RZ some credit, I feel like he improved, Lords of Salem was genuinely discomforting I think it was moreso than Hereditary or Midsommer).

You are giving off the vibe of Mac and Dennis not realizing that their party mansion flyer was a dick.

I take it you also weren't aware that Spider-Man's web is jizz?

The dead bodies in Poltergeist (you know when the mom falls into the hole where they're building the pool) were real cadavers. It was apparently cheaper and easier than making fake ones.

You should see JCVD as Predator (oh yeah, JCVD was originally going to be the Predator). They had him running around in this dumbass looking monster costume.

I guess by "they" you mean the Wachowskis themselves?
IDK, maybe it's worth considering that the creators of a thing know what it's about.

Yeah, I think all of the Giger art I've seen has some kind of sexual imagery present.

The issue is that seems like them re writing history to try and justify the shitty Matrix stuff after the first movie. I think they're trying to reframe it to try and mitigate the criticisms of the sequels, to try and stem Matrix following Star Wars (good original, dumbass moronic over CGIed ones that came later, and then them trying to get people hyped for new ones that are likely going to suck just as much - sorry I think the Wachowskis are just bad filmmakers that like Lucas stumbled onto a perfect storm where they could make something very cool, but clearly didn't actually understand what made it cool so they fucked it all up; everything they've made since has been pretty awful with the only one I enjoyed being Speed Racer where it was still pretty shallow and all about the visual tour de force).

V for Vendetta was pretty good, IMO, but I haven't watched anything they've done since then.
