and then realized that just a decent motherboard is as much as processor + motherboard on the amd side of things. and potentially could yield the same performance (get a p4 that doesn't overclock well).

and you guys buying RIMM 4200s must have more money than you know what to do with! the things look way more expensive than regular 16 bit rdram, and you can only use the one asus (read: expensive) board.

ah well, whatever floats your boat.


interestingly... the athlon XP system at fry's is way cooler than mine (in terms of heat coming out the back). i wonder if it was a t-bred or if the GF3 (and 3 7200 rpm drives) really puts out that much heat?

EDIT: checked newegg cart, p4 mobo (4G4a+) is actually $11 more than athlon and ak31a!
and it seemed that board was cheaper at fry's :Q
