Is anyone else excited about this game? It looks pretty cool to me, especially how you create your own units (Similar to GalCiv 2). I am not real big into the cell graphics, but it is very early in development so that may change.

This looks interesting. I'm at work so I can't invest a lot of time researching it right this second, but it does look intriguing.

The cell cartoony graphics make not look particularly good, but they can easily compensate for that with good art direction and they will be able to target very low system requirements.

I was reading a little more about it (slow day at work), and the graphics should get better. They haven't implemented any lighting effects yet, and this is a very early concept for them to see how it will look.

One thing I have noticed about other Stardock games is that their gameplay is usually very good, but the story and presentation usually leave something to be desired. We'll see how it goes with this game though.

the pending release date is February 15, 2010, so we have a long time to wait. On the other hand, you can get the Beta in June 2009, if you pre-order.

Wow, I thought they were much further along in development than that. So, we're basically looking at early alpha stage screen shots.

Yeah. Who knows what it will look like when released. Plus, since it is a Stardock game, it will change quite a bit after release too. (Both GC and GC2 are completely different games now than when I first purchased them) They seem to love to update their games even years after release. (The last update to GC1 was 5 years after its release.)

I usually avoid pre-orders, but this game looks so interesting to me I just may do it to play the beta. At the same time, I don't feel like putting in a lot of time reporting bugs during the beta period.

Here is a Gamespot Interview with Brad Wardell about the game. It even has a trailer, although the trailer isn't anything to write home about. Brad said basically what you did about the graphics; that they were using the cell graphics because it was easy to scale back so slow systems would be able to run the game well.
