Electrostatic Speaker Question

Hey all,

I'm doing some research on an upcoming project, and it requires speakers with quality and range that can fit inside a very shallow housing. I'm thinking about 1.5 inches deep, 1.5 inches horizontally and about 7-8 inches vertically on each side of the unit. Sort of like an | shape that's 1.5x1.5x7.

At first i was thinking a couple tiny cone speakers per side to provide midrange and high freq's until i considered electrostatic speakers instead. I really don't know too much about them and was wondering if anyone here could give me some information on how they work, functionally speaking. Ie., what sort of power they need, if that power needs to be connected to them or in a seperate (preamp) source, sound fidelity in small sizes, etc etc. I know it's a long shot but if anyone can help out I would really appreciate it.

I?m not an expert but I don?t think electrostatic?s would work very well in an enclosure of that size if you?re expecting to get midrange performance out of them.
