Electronic Waste Recycling Fee

:disgust:In addition to the normal charges, NEWEGG.com charged me an 'Electronic Waste Recycling Fee of $8.00.
Who gets the money?

In AB, we have ADS fees.

Advance Disposal Surcharge.

$8 on PCs, $12 on monitors, $8 on printers/AIOs, more on stuff like TVs, etc.

I'd never heard of it until I was checking out something on Newegg and saw the comment. I left California in Feb so never caught that one.

I don't know who gets mine but I don't really care because every hardware retailer must take back old computer/tv parts by law and then they get disposed properly (I think this is centrally organised). I thought US hardware normally ships to China after use, gets a bit separated and then burned without filtering. Good to see there are some efforts to change this.

I doubt it changes anything except the state & national debts.

Heh, in addition to getting charged at point of disposal for this stuff, the state of Maryland makes the MANUFACTURERS pay it at point of creation. There's a reason I'm not a manufacturer anymore, and that's it. It's not my fvcking responsibility to make sure my products get disposed of properly - hell, I now volunteer my time recycling PCs by the dozen. It's fun sh!t, if hard work.
