Do they sell special gloves to work with electrical wiring without turning off the power?

I broke the Celing lamp covering and can't find a replacement so i think the whole unit needs to be replaced.

Not really...

I mean, they do sell rubber gloves for the purpose of electrical insulation, but they're usually pretty thick... finger dexterity would suffer.

Just turn the circuit off.. it's not a big deal?

Too big a chance you'll short something to ground and then fall off the ladder.

Turn the breaker off, then confirm that it is off at the lamp.

Ah you don't need gloves or to turn off any breakers, just be fast. 120 ain't that much.

yes, they do. but i don't recommend it. working on energized equipment is still very dangerous. it shouldn't be done on a whim.

nothing in a house is so critical that it can't have power to it turned off

120 kills more people than any other voltage. Turn the power off.

That said, I rarely bother turning off the power when installing ceiling fans, etc. But, I don't stand on an aluminum ladder either, nor do I use both hands when making electrical connections.
