Electricians: How do I ....

.. I have a 3 prong outlet that i am testing with an outlet tester and it reports reversed hot/neutral.

hwo do I resolve this?

EDIT: I have a switch/outlet. The switch controls a light outside. That works great as far as I can tell. The outlet on teh unit is where the issue is.

I would tell you how I would do it but I would feel bad if anyone died following my instructions. 🙁

Unreverse it?

I can't figure out what is what. a big pain in da but. White is hot. Black is neutral. I tried to swap them and I think I did it right. Now it says that there is no ground and the swich for the outside isn't working.

Turn off the power to the outlet,make damn sure it's not live,remove the cover plate,remove the two screws holding the outlet in place,on the back of the outlet switch the black with the white and vice versa,leave the green ground alone.

You sure about that?

Standard color code:

White = Neutral
Black/Red = Hot
Green = Ground

That's what I've tried. I think it might be a case for the yellow pages. argghhhhhh.

Didn't kill myself yet.

On the switch itself, there are two screws on one side and on the otherside there are two bridged screws that act as one connection. Which one is ground? Well, what would the bridged piece represent on the switch/plug?
