Electric Supercharger???

Came across this through some stream-of-consciousness googling late last night 😛

The concept seems sound, the performance claims aren't outrageous. Anybody have any experience with anything like this?

I don't need the extra power all the time, but living in colorado, it'd be nice to have a bit more juicee under my foot at high altitude crossing the passes, etc. Of course, they are talking about seconds worth of boost, whereas I need minutes worth :frown:

newsgroup thread from 5 years ago.

basically says it's just a snake oil product.

I've heard those things are a hoax. The ones I've seen before don't spin up with the engine, so at low rpms they might work, but soon as you speed the engine up the "supercharger" can't feed enough air to be remotely effective.
So it's like 5hp at 1500rpm maybe, and then nothing throughout the rest of the entire powerband.

there was a company that did a research on the real electric superchargers. They had extra two or 3 car batteries and a secondary alternator that would charge em. The blower would produce farily significant numbers 40-50hp, but only for about 15 secs at the time (when it ran down the battery). The whole shabbang was significantly bigger than the 80mm fans thew're selling on that website...

Figured it was to good to be true. Besides, and extra 10 horses probably wouldn't make much difference on my Land Cruiser.
