Electric Razor (Remmington) vs Regular "Mach III" Razor

A few months ago I spent $60 on a Remmington electric razor thinking it would help over my Mach 3.

First few days my face got red, not from getting cut, but from "rashes" I guess. I read over the manual for the razor and it said that your face needs at least a week to adjust to the razor.

So after a few weeks my face got adjusted and I wouldn't get the red "rashes."

However I'm not at all impressed with the performance. Jeez my $10 Mach III definately gets me a better shave than this thing. So I went out and bought some elcheapo generic brand "electric razor lotion" to apply on your face before shaving. That sh1t helped a LOT. But it's still nowhere nearly as good as my mach3. I just can't seem to get a close enough shave. Hell the only thing this is good for is a really fast shave in the morning if I'm in a rush.

Should I get rid of this thing? For $60 it's not at all impressive.

I got a $150 Braun razor. It works great, but no electric is going to get as close as a regular razor. They all have some sort of foil or guard to keep the cutting heads away from your skin. The width of that foil is the length of the stubble left.

That summed it up. Damn. I can't exactly return this thing. I'll just use this if I need to shave but have no water/shaving cream ready ;).

I've been using an electric most of my life. As long as I shave right after a shower it's about as close as a blade can get on my face.

AFTER? I gotta try that. I thought you were supposed to shave with your skin completely dry. I'll update you guys in the morning ;).

I got an electric because my face gets red and irritated shaving daily with a regular rzaor. It's not quite as close, but it's good enough for me.

Your face gets red from shaving with regular? That's what happens with electric for me (its been stopping for the past few months, but I still get some rediness on my neck) - make sure you get some really thick lather shaving cream. I know that helped me a lot (I'd get a closer shave, and stop cutting myself).

my face gets red no matter what i shave with. :( but i usually go with a regular razor, since i might as well have red and smooth instead of red and stubbly.

An electric will never get as close as a blade.

However, always shave either while in or right after a hot shower.

I normally use an electric first and then get the stubble that's left with a blade.

Might have to try that. Haha. I've been following a strict method for quite some time now ;). What you said might work.... with or without shaving cream?

How are the new Mach 3 electrics? I heard they're just a regular razor with some vibrating thing.

I do it without.

Splash the face in a bit of warm water, whip out the electric, do what I can with it.

Hit the shower, shave with a blade while in the hot shower.

Smooth finish nearly every time.

I used the Mach3 blade for a long time, but I'm liking the Schick Quattro that I'm using now.

I found that shaving after showering works better. Something about your pores opening up after a hot shower.

I did. My dad bought me a nice electric as a present a few years ago when I moved out. I promptly gave it to one of my roommates after it gave me the horrid "red rash" on my face. I used plastic disposables for a long time until I tried the (overpriced) Mach 3 razor line. They were a lot more comfortable and cut up my face a lot less. Recently I tried the vibrating Mach 3 razors. I think those are really great. It's expensive (like $20 for an 8-pack of blades), but I go through about 1 blade a week, so it's not too bad.

I recommend getting the Mach 3 Power, but not the Nitro edition. I first bought the Mach 3 Power, which really worked well. The Nitro doesn't work as well for some reason (even though it looks cooler ;)).

I hate shaving. If I don't shave when I first wake up, I don't do it. But when I wake up, my face is pretty stiff from sleeping. So here's how I shave:

1. Get your face wet with warm water
2. Use a facial cleanser like Neutrogena, the kind that feels like cream with sand (the little pellets in it). Rub your face with that and rinse with warm water. This both cleans the skin on your face and makes your skin more pliable so that shaving is more comfortable.
3. Use a gel shaving cream (I like Edge or whatever it's called) and rub it on your face good
4. Use the vibrating Mach 3 Power - shave both up AND down. Like where your sideburns are - shave down, which is way more comfortable than shaving up first, then shave up, once most of the hair is off. This way your skin is really smooth, but your face doesn't hurt from shaving.
5. Hop in the shower and clean everything off your face.

That's it. Pretty easy. Use facial cleanser with the beads in it and then shave up and down with your razor. Less pain, no razor burn, and a really smooth shave.
