Utility cost difference is not a concern of mine.

I've always used electric ovens....but some people say food prepared in gas ovens seem to taste better.

Any thought or comments will be appreciated.

get a gas oven, that way you get to "play" with an explosive every time you cook

In an oven I would say that heat is heat. I would rather cook on a gas fire stove though.

electric. You don't have to disable the thing to clean it and they look nicer IMO. Also, the fewer explosives you have in the house, the less chance there'll be an explosion...

heh, it never occurred to me that gas ovens might be more dangerous.

Makes sense though.

I would prefer a electric oven and gas stove top, but I have electric for both.

Gas is better. As for being more dangerous I wouldn't worry about it unless you are a careless slob. My mom has a gas stove and she has lived with it for over 10 years without any problems.

God intended us to cook with fire, not sissy litle glowing coils. Go gas.

kassy and Millenium, I agree. A gas range with an electric oven is the way to go. But where do you buy them at? I've looked for them when I'm out shopping for appliances.

Zedtom-I am not sure that they even exist. Maybe it is just a fantasy of mine to have an appliance that perfect.

They most certainly exist. If you're in SoCal you can try Pacific Sales or and higher-end appliance store. IMHO, even Sears carries those. You guys left out the main reason to get an electric oven: better temperature control. The appliance is able to maintain the oven at a more constant temperature. The gas burned up top for obvious reasons.

Concidering electric power is near brown out/black out conditions, it's nice to be able to do a little cooking while you wait for the power to come back on...gas..................

First of, you will not notice difference in taste regardless whether it's cooked on gas or with electricity. However, if you are into playing chef at home, I would go with gas because it lets you adjust temperature more precisely and it burns hotter. Modern gas stoves are very safe, just check with consumer reports magazine for the best model.

I'm impartial to gas vs. electric ovens but DEFINITELY get a gas stovetop. You get way more control over the heating.

Electric oven with gas stovetop definately sounds like the way to go!

But I am having a rough time finding any made for residential home use. The ones I have found so far are for commerical/restaurant use.

I'll keep searching though....

gas..you can cook stuff on the open flame too which is always fun. Plus I hate waiting for those stupid coils to heat up.

I like gas because the burners cool down nearly instantly...none of this wait for 20 minutes for the damn things to cool down.

I never burned scrambled eggs or boiled anything over until I had to cook on an electric stove the first time.

We've got a gas stove top with electric oven/grill at our new place

I MISS MY GAS OVEN AND GRILL!

Right, now that's rant that over with, i prefer gas all the way, as it doesn't take as long to heat up. I don't want to wait 10 mins for the electric grill to heat up just so i can grill my bacon, or do my cheese on toast! I want the (almost) instantness of the gas oven/grill :)

Electric can heat faster than gas. It just depends on what medium. :)

Magnetic induction so I am told can beat a gas burner quite handily time-wise.

But, I'll stick with gas for now just because I like fire.
