Why don't they start on fire or spark or whatever happens when electricity meets water? When a person or animal touches it, they get shocked, but when water touches it nothing happens?

I see you have quite the good understanding of electricity. :D

Another good question, when there is lightning in the rain or over a lake, how come the whole world doesn't burst into flames?

What's going to catch fire? The wire or the water? The rain doesn't ground, so that's not going to complete the circuit.

Okay well if everything is wet (the whole wire, the fence poles, and the ground) wouldn't that complete the circuit?

no circuit, no current flow

and pure water is actually more of an insulator than a conductor, although rain can pick up some contaminants if the area is smoggy

I saw this on Mythbusters and they said it wasn't true. However, none of them was willing to give it the true test.

The voltage of the fence is low enough that it only takes millimeters (or less) to stop the arcing. Thus, even on the rainiest day, the posts don't get wet enough to ground out, and if they did, I'm sure there is a relay that will trip and reclose if it's grounded for too long.

Go grab the fence and you will complete the circuit.

BTW-Wood does not conduct electricity.

Don't Whiz on the Electric Fence

:music:
:music:
When nature's callin'
Don't be stallin'
Use your common sense
Before your let if flow
Find a place to go
Just don't whiz on the electric fence
If you're gonna explode
You can use the commode
of igloos, cave dwellings or tents
No need to explain when you gotta drain
Just don't whiz on the electric fence
You can swizzle on the sofa
Piddle in the air
Tinkle in the toilet
That's why it is there
You can let in rain
In the breakfast lane
While waving at ladies and gents
Just don't whiz on...
Don't whiz on
Don't whiz on the electric fence

If it was covered in sheets of water, it might, but the arc still wouldn't be visible, since the voltage is so low and current is limited.

I seem to remember someone doing this in one of the CKY videos. He looked to be in a great deal of pain.

I just hooked up an electric fence to try and keep my dogs from digging under the fence and it's seems to be working so far, my dog had a shocking experience when he peed on the wire and don't think that will happen again.

I've seen a man do that, not realizing it was there, pretty much hidden by weeds. I've seen a dog do it.... based on their reactions, I'm not going to do it...... ever

A fresh tree branch is going to contain moisture, sap, and all sorts juicy mineral stuff otherwise lightning wouldn't go after em.
