Downside is that it's a RC car. I can't see spending over $1K on a RC car though. Might as well get a plane or helicopter.

These traxxas RC cars are pretty awesome. I have one of the monster truck models that does like 40mph and can survive jumping/flipping/crashing at those speeds.

100 mph involves just a little more energy than 40.

100+mph, 10 lbs..... I can see some bones being broken by parents giving these to inexperienced drivers thinking its just a toy.

"Controlling this lithium-polymer-battery-powered, all-wheel-drive projectile requires an iPhone or iPod Touch, so you can run the Traxxas Link telemetry app that unlocks the car's top speed. "

I wonder if it uses a cell signal to communicate? It might get out of range too quickly at 100mph for the standard RC.

Jesus, that's a pretty dangerous thing to have off the shelf lol :)

Can you imagine a nefarious person who got one of these, and strapped a kilo of semtex or C4 to it? You could make a micro jihad missile and drive it right into a target installation by remote at very high speed, and it'd be hell to stop it (unlike a suspicious truck/van, or human target approaching).

And they could train using GTA2's RC car.

Traxxas has pretty cool stuff. I have a Nitro Rustler that came with the 2.5 engine, but have since swapped it out for the 3.0 engine. It will do well over 70mph....but 100 mph out of electric? awesome.

Electric drag cars on 1/10th quarter mile(132ft) do around 120 mph in 1.2 seconds.

I had a funny car that would consistently do 1.5s @92-96mph.

but i guess the point of the car in the OP is that its off the shelf...

Oh a RC... meh... where and how often will you find a field big enough to run that stuff...

btw I was wondering about the "G" on a real car with that kind of acceleration.. will it be great enough to wear a special suite or something?
