I don't think your rigs consume that much electricity. Turn down the AC instead.
I had a $167 electric bill in June all due to the AC.

<---- Would die without AC in AZ @105F

San Diego... say no more. You have one of the highest electric rates in the country.
And unless you have 6 Athlons running some kind of Distributed Computing, your computers don't use that much juice. With 6 people living in your apartment, what most likely is using the most juice is your water heater and refridgerator.

$160 is a lot? When you hit 500 let me know.

<-- currently housing 14 computers on a dedicated 100a J-panel.

Turn off the lights when your done? Decide what you want to eat before opening the fridge? Get florescent lights?

If your fridge is over about 5-6 years old, it could be a major consumer of electrons.....the latest ones are WAY cheaper to operate.

Buy compact fluorescent lights. Uses much less electric (27 watts for a 100 watt equiv) and plugs directly into the socket.

I use a magnet to store excess electrons, then I toss the magnet intot he fridge where it releases them. My refrigerator is awesome cheap to use now.

Wow, thats kind of a lot.

I pay just about $20 a month for myself. 3 of us in a townhome, and actually townhome not those "apartment townhomes." Your computer doesnt do much... its more your monitor (especially if its a 19"). Nevertheless, as people said you wont save much turning off your computer and stuff... from being conservative w/ electricty last month, and having two computers on pretty much 24/7 now, I only saved about $5.

$160 would be nice...

In Gainesville, FL (just about the hottest and most humid city around), my bill just bloated from ~$120 a month to $250 a month!

This is in a first-floor (usually less expensive because of insulation) apartment with 4 dudes.

This blows... ahh.. but the price we pay for consistent 75 degrees.
