I'm trying to tame my beard a bit so that I seem less like a hipster (my beard's kinda all over the place) but haven't had good luck with the electric trimmer's I've tried. Any recommendations? I'd like something that makes an even trim simpler, my norelco's pretty difficult to control even with the guide on the most conservative setting.

I had a Wahl trimmer for a while, but dropped it a few months ago and busted the business end all to sh*t. I bought a set of Osters to replace it.

The Wahl trimmer had an adjustable head that worked nicely for beard/mustache length, but the Oster cuts more cleanly than the Wahl ever did.

Do you just take a standard (barber style) trimmer to your face, or get a special beard/mustache trimmer? Sounds stupid but I used to use a regular old wahl for the scruffy look back in college and I remember it working much better than my specialized (and expensive) norelco.

The Wahl was a standard barber style trimmer (small), with an accessory adjustable comb for the beard.

The Oster is a 2 set: I started clipping all my hair, so the new one is a full sized clipper and a companion trimmer. The big clipper has an adjustable comb built in, as well as other fixed length fittings for it. The trimmer is plain.

I use a remington platinum thing I bought years ago for about 100 bucks. Me and my son use it to death and it is still kicking.
