Is it dated, or still worth playing? I'm a big fan of the rpg genre, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

The original, Arena: TES?

Yeah, it's over 10 years old, so you might guess it's a little dated graphically (running in 320x200).

The gameplay is exactly the same as Morrowind and Daggerfall (Daggerfall was stupidly buggy BTW).

i've restarted to play morrowind. 2 years ago on Xbox, but now I have the cd and noCD crack so I'm playing on the PC. great game. do anything, many quests, tons of dungeons and stuff. I love it :)

so yes, worth playing 9.5/10

Assuming we're talking about Morrowind...
The quests can be a little tiresome and repetitive (especially the ones in the thieves' guild, where you have to run back and forth from Vivec, the least-accessible city ever, 42134 times), but it's a really, really fun game with a ton of variety in terms of play-style and character abilities. My advice, though, is to sit down and play it, for the very first time, when you have at least two hours to spare. You just sort of get tossed into the game world with practically no direction, so you'll need a sizable block of time to "get into" the game. People that sit down with it for a half hour (myself included) tend to find it boring, but if you force yourself to play for a couple hours, I can almost guarantee that you'll be hooked.
