So I was messing with some of the settings in the INI file for Oblivion. Changed a couple things, and I noticed that afterward, when I tried to change the brightness setting the game would exit. Also, everytime I quicksaved, the game would not actually save my game. I had to press ESC and save manually to get the save function to work.
I first tried copying the default INI back over the edited one to no avail.
Uninstalled, and now I can't reinstall!! The installer program exits immediately after the initial progress bar gets to 100%.
I hunted around some and found this in the TEMP directory of the Documents and Settings folder:
CompanyName=Bethesda Softworks
CompanyURL=http://www.bethsoft.com
ErrorReportURL=http://www.installshield.com/isetup/ProErrorCentral.asp?ErrorCode=%d : 0x%x&ErrorInfo=%s
??
