While surfing around (can't remember what site it was), I found some rumors about ES4 coming out for the PC around the end of this year. It's going to support dual-core technology, so I can't wait to see what it's gonna be able to do :)

I wouldn't count on it being released any time near the xbox 360 version. It's a launch game, and we wouldn't want a PC version mucking up sales. Maybe in a year.

Wasn't Morrowind PC first? I think the xbox version wasn't nearly as good, especially as far as the interface was concerned.

It'll be delayed, but that goes without saying.

I liked morrowind, but it suffered from that same sloppy porting performance problem so many titles that came out around that time did.

As for dual core...Bethseda can't even code a game that isn't infested with bugs for a single processor platform, for all our sakes I hope they don't even try.

from what I heard on the Oblivion forums, it's not a XBOX launch title. PC version XBOX version would come out at the same time- maybe within a week or two if any difference

Hmmm if it is going to be dual core, will the singlecore be put down? Like how much of a performance loss will the single core people suffer? 5-10%? Meh by 2006 I'll prob have a 4800+ X2 and 7800GTX when prices do down.

I think it'll be like Half-Life 2. You CAN play it, relatively well, with a single-core. It's just that with dual-core you'll get even more little goodies. :)

If they are releasing for xbox360 they don't have any choice in the matter.

That's not true. Just because there are three cores, doesn't mean they're all going to be used. There was an Anandtech article on this (might be the infamous deleted one).

Aye. :)

Either launch for all platforms at the same time, or PC first.

If they do not utilise the three cores, they are limited to near xbox1 levels, which just isn't going to fly for a product that's supposed to be an xbox prestige title.

That was one of the points of the article. There's all this hype about these console processors, but some developers aren't even coding for Xbox360's 3 cores or PS3's 1+7 cores because it's too difficult at the moment. Someone has copied the article here: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/lofiversion/index.php/t415050-0.html

While the developers we've spoken to agree that heavily multithreaded game engines are the future, that future won't really take form for another 3 - 5 years. Even MS admitted to us that all developers are focusing on having, at most, one or two threads of execution for the game engine itself - not the four or six threads that the Xbox 360 was designed for.

Games of the magnitude and scope that are out now are a b|tch to make solid without having to worry about different threads. Plus, it doesn't seem like there would be a lot of talent out there in the game programming arena that has much experience coding for dual processors. Think about it, until now virtually all game programming only needed to take advantage of one cpu. It was enough and thats all the user base had. Dual core is going to have to be out for a good while before we start seeing the talent out there to take any real advantage of it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, game coding on todays titles is no trivial matter...and programming to take advantage of duel processors NEVER was. Now the overworked game developer slaves are going to have both to contend with.

I think the 3-5 years quoted is reasonable. To bad the console's life cycle will be coming to an end by the time the developers catch up.

Regardless, I'm excited about this title for the PC platform.
