I'm more interested in the technical stuff, is this the same engine (so the same wonky quirks of previous ES games?) or finally a new one?

Its in pre-production, which means nothing has been made yet, they probably still have to recruit the team.

This. There is literally no reason to be excited. Starfield is coming first on the next gen so even if it’s a launch title it’s going to be at least 2 years before it goes into production. At the absolute earliest you are not going to see ESVI for another 4-5 years. The only reason they announced it so early was so fans would know they were still committed to the series, because the series is skipping this console generation. That’s it.

I believe they mentioned somewhere awhile ago that they were waiting to make TES 6 until they could put it on a new engine. I don't have a quote for that, so no need to believe me, but I'm pretty sure it'll be a new engine. With that said, it's Bethesda, so except bugs and quirks.

This exactly. I'm positive the only reason we got a teaser is so that Todd Howard didn't get murdered in his sleep after announcing Skyrim mobile. How do you meme the current state of skyrim with an Alexa bit at the beginning, and then actually announce skyrim mobile? I'd be more hyped to play skyrim on an alexa than I am to play it on mobile.

If I have to collect ~64 Crimson Nirnroot again, someone is going to get murdered.

Given they will most assuredly use the same engine, you will be able to hit tilde for the console and add them to your inventory. No problem.

In fact for Skyrim I downloaded a mod that gives me all fetch quest items as soon as I walked into Riften. Theres 3 plants for the alchemy student, a bunch of frost teeth for the grocer, several gems for the jeweler, fire salts for the smith, and a couple others I cant recall.

Hearing that it's supposed to be a new engine, I just hope modding is still provided. Without modding ES games... suck.

Don't worry, you have the new mobile game, Elder Scrolls: Blades, to tide you over. ;)

Seeing the announcement tells me I should finally try to play Skyrim now that enough mods have been made. I've logged thousands upon thousands of hours into Oblivion but only about 14 on Skyrim because it was an obvious console port and I hated how dumbed down it felt.

I would have preferred it if they didn't official announce it yet.

It's probably a good 3 years away, at least. But now that they announced it they'll have to keep showing things every couple of months. You can't afford long radio silence periods with things like that. However, it's ES6... heh. I'm not sure if any amount of media hiatus in between reveals and announcements would actually affect it in any way. Still, I think that it would have been MUCH better if they announced it exactly the way they did for Fallout 4. Let's say... we hear nothing about it until one year at E3... say 2021 or something, they come on stage and say "Oh btw, here is this new game we've been working on" * BOOM * it's ES6, they go "Oh also, here's the first 15 minutes of the game" * people faint in the crowd * and finally "Oh and here's the release date" * comes out just a few months later the same year. Now, THAT, would have been absolutely epic.

I'm not going to hide the fact that I was very, extremely surprised (pleasantly so) when at the very end they showed the 'tease'. I had a smile on my face and thought "You m-fkers, you're really doing it; I love you". But the thing is, it was not a state secret or anything. We ALL knew that ES6 would happen, and most of us assumed that at the very least they started to work on it already. I WOULD have preferred it if they did have something to show about it. But it was basically just an official announcement. It felt more like "Ok ok, yes, here it is; now please shut up about it already we're on it, see you again in 4 years." It's satisfying to know they're officially on it sure. But... now I know I'm going to have to wait a couple of years with very little to talk about in between. If there IS something I really dislike is whenever developers announce a game literally years before it's ever going to be ready. The intent might be to "build up hype", it's a classic but that one just doesn't work with me anymore (it worked back when I was in my teens, but that was... some time ago).

Unless they pull up something completely unexpected during E3 at their booth and have more to show (or to say)... but that, I definitely think is not gonna happen.

I'm probably more excited to see exactly what kind of game Starfield is than about ES6. As Zenoth says, we all knew they were working on the next ES, it was a question of when, not if. The Starfield announcement came out of no where and I love Sci Fi so this is good.

Thats what they said about Skyrim.
Much later I learned it was just an updated version of Gamebryo. MUCH later they moved to the 64 bit version used in Fallout 4, but its still the same engine.

Gopher (the YT guy) said "we think it's Hammerfell". I'm assuming he discussed it with others in the community.

IIRC, that's been the long-going assumption with all of the TES community geeks for the next installment. I think it's the only homeworld left in the series? Or do the cat people count as an actual race/homeworld that is worth exploring?

It could be Hammerfell (homeland of the Redguards), or High Rock (homeland of the Breton). There's also Valenwood (homeland of the Bosmer / Wood Elves), however that one might be unlikely, but it's not impossible. And also, for the "cat people" (the Khajiit) we'd have to go to the province of Elsweyr.

Something new, however, could happen with ES6. If the game ends up being for a next-generation console and would finally run on a completely new engine (which I do absolutely hope would be the case) then it wouldn't be impossible that we'd be going to more than one province. It could be a combination of two or maybe more. But obviously doing that would mean an astonishingly high amount of work involved that would probably take them about a decade to make. If I had to go with just one province then I would indeed choose Hammerfell. That province is big, it has about 8 'main' cities / settlements (very suiting for a full game), and wouldn't be too different to Oblivion-meets-Skyrim when it comes to topography, climate and biomes (it's a relatively mountainous region, but there's also grasslands and, new this time around if the engine allows it would be a desert region which itself is pretty big within the province). However, High Rock is sharing borders with Hammerfell to the north. I do think (just gut feeling) for some reason that ES6 might be the first one to include two provinces. So in the end I think that the chances are fairly high that it would be either Hammerfell, or High Rock... or both.

The ES games are usually (so far) sub-titled with the name of the province involved in the game. I do like the sound of "The Elder Scrolls VI: Hammerfell", over "ESVI: High Rock". Just the name alone sounds fantasy-like, sounds mysterious and incites curiosity. To me, anyway. I would, however, REALLY like it if we got Valenwood. But I do feel like it's going to be Hammerfell. And I'd totally be happy with that (I would like to know more about the Redguards, too, and I would really like to explore that province as well). Obviously, the 'mega' scenario would be the unthinkable; the whole of Tamriel (basically just like Elder Scrolls Online, but set in a proper single-player game with a massive main story arc). But yeah... no, that won't happen (I think that "going full Tamriel" is something that they might think needs to be 'reserved' for Elder Scrolls Online... but that's just the way I perceive it).

I'm just more concerned about the engine they'll go with though. Even if it's for the next-gen consoles, I have this back-thought anchored to my mind that they will STILL be using some new iteration of their damn GameBryo engine version 7.65.1 or something. My guess is they'll take the Fallout 76 engine (which has much higher draw distance this time around compared to Fallout 4) and will "upgrade" it, AGAIN, for Elder Scrolls 6, and they'll call it Creation Engine 3. If they ever get rid of that thing I'll be sure to keep every single article and videos ever made about it archived in my drive to keep this as a milestone in the history of humankind.
