EL Duque, Cy Young?

this is a guy that didn't even have a team at the beginning of the season.

where would the yankees be without him.

is he the clear #1 by now?

I wonder if El Duque would be just as good if he wasn't on the Yankees. He wasn't too hot in his short stint with Montreal (granted he was on the DL most of the time). But the second he puts on those pinstripes the man transforms into an ace. In fact.. he's the best pitcher on that rotation and looks like he will end up starting game 1 of the playoffs.

my best fantasy trade ever... Dunn, Grissom, and Pettite for Santana, Zambrano, and Abreu.

😀

edit: and yes, Santana = cy young. He had a streak of like 2 months where he gave up an average of 3 hits per 9 innings or something

Mark Mulder was the sure set Cy Young winner about a month ago..he led the AL in wins, was near the top in ERA and innings pitched..bt the last few starts for him have unfortunately been not so great.

It definitely will be close though coming down the stretch with Schilling and Santana picking it up at the end though.

Would that be the good, healthy Carlos Zambrano.. or the broken down, damaged goods the stupid Mets have (Victor).. ARRGHHH.

We'll see how Santana does in the playoffs. Looks like it may be against the Yanks..so we'll see what Santana truly has.

How can Santana NOT be the AL Cy Young! He's been tremendous since his 5th or so start. I remember he had a 10-game streak going of 4 hits allowed or less. I think he has had one of the best overall seasons since Pedro's 3-consecutive Cy-caliber seasons two years back. The twins don't even give him all that much support, but he can win with 3 runs from his team pretty consistently.

As much as I love el duque and the yankees, and even though he is the best pitcher in the majors right now, santana and schilling have just pitched longer this year. And nobody can deny their dominance. So it will come down to one of those two, most likely schilling barring a major dropoff.

Platinum! HOmie! Santana man....

El Duquel. Lmao. Um. No...

Schillig...okay I can swallow that argument. Hudson. Sure sounds good. El Duque. Hell No. Sheet, you can't come in midway thru the season and earn the hardware.

amazing how most of you miss the point of the post. i know that el duque couldn't possibly win the Cy Young only having pitched half the season. the whole point was to show how valuable el duque has been to the yankees. has he or has he not been the yankees best pitcher since being brought back up? has he or has he not exceeded EVERYONES expectations for him.

he has been the stopper. he has been a rock for them.

El Duque has no shot at the Cy Young award, he hasn't pitched an entire season.

Santana has put up some good numbers this year, but he trails Schilling in one very important catagory ... wins.

Last year, Pedro had arguably better numbers than Roy Halladay, but didn't have nearly the amount of wins.

Anyway, my prediction ... (and it pains me to say this as a Red Sox fan), is Mariano Rivera as AL Cy Young.

no doubt about it. he's pitching like he's got a bionic arm...plus he has experience on the mount. 🙂

better then the three other choke artists on the staff...time to work for those paychecks!!

There's no way a guy who didnt pitch for 3/4 of a season is winning a Cy Young. If the writers have any balls they'd vote for Mariano.

El Duque has not been this healthy since his first year in the bigs. He has been battling injuries that he alone knows about. The guy is a great player.

Uh.........no.

Yeah I'm guessing Santana also, but I can see Shilling snatching it from him at the end of the season. Rivera?? No way.

Sigh... another la dee da day for Santana.

7IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 7 k's. Only 88 pitches as well. I don't think Schilling's 19 wins at this point make even the slightest difference since Santana has 18. Schilling undoubtedly has a better team of course
