Which is the best under $200 dvd player out there? It seems one could shop and compare for ages in that range!! Anyone have any valuable insight?

apex all the way. they're the only thing that'll play svcd's and any other format you can think of. plus you can get one for under 100bucks, or a 3 disk one for around 150ish.

Beware the Apex... 3 out of 4 at Christmas were bad at my place.

One's display was garbled. The other would not recognize some DVD's that I was using and had remote sensor issues.

I agree you have to be careful when buying an apex.....they are the ones that get handled the most because of the low price people tend to pick up that box more and drop and/or move it around. Your best bet is to grab one from the back on the shelf.....chances are they havent been mishandled by customers as badly and will work properly.....plus they have mp3 playback on em hehe

I was told that the Apex did play back MP3's...I haven't seen it do so though...are the cheap Sony's or Panasonics any good?

I think the Pioneer 503 5 Disc changer is pretty good. If you check around it get's nice reviews and it's only about $200. The nice thing about it is that it can play CD-Rs, while other players like Toshiba can't. (Note - while it can play CD-Rs, it can't play mp3 discs.)
