Either my p3 700 fc is bad or could it be the asus s370 adapter?

I just got a p3 700 fc and put it on a asus s70 adapter in a asus p3v4x mb.
AS windows me begins to load it restarts the comp every time. Would a bad chip alow you to even enter windows or would you get a blue screen if the p3 was bad. I ran a celoron and it boots fine with a slocket. Any solutions or tests i can do? im runnin it at 700 at 1.65 volts.

What windows are you running?

What ram do you have?

Try the cpu at 133mhz fsb at 933 also add some voltage.

The ram is pc100 and i am just trying to get the cpu going at the default of 700. Unless there is a special setting in the bios for a coppermine i think this chip is dead. I put a celeron in the adapter and it ran so i think im screwed.

Are there jumpers on the adapter that you have to change from Celeron to FCPGA? Does the startup screen say you have a P3 700E? I would suspect something is not set properly. Memory timings? Running the celery, did the ram actually run at 66, and now it will be running at 100? Will the computer run properly off of a Startup Disk, with the 700 installed? Sounds like troubleshooting time... Try slowing down the memory timings too.

i have a celeorn 366 running @550 on it so i know its not the ram and i put it on the adapter and did set the jumpers back and forth between celeron and coppermine.
So I think its the proccesor. I was just wondering if you get all or nothing if the processor is dead. Would it even start into windows?

Hi
Sounds like your Asus slocket isn't FCPGA compatible.

get a MSI6905. so many times ive told people. its cheap, they are TOP quality. Nobody i know has ever had problems with them.

Try booting at 1.8V on your cheap slotket and if it works, you got a bad slotket.
