well, heres the story. I was driving home, being cautious because of the snow and ice. Theres this little left turn, not a complete 90 degree turn, but a slight turn. I was going about 20mph and as i hit the turn my car started sliding into a circle. I dunno if it was instinct or just reaction, but i didnt panic or hit the breaks, i just simply let go of the acceleration and prayed (well not really) that the car stopped. It felt like it happened in slow motion. As the circle was almost complete, the car was heading towards a telephone pole, and all of a sudden stopped about 4 feet away from it. i dunno, it was just wierd/scary..

I almost rear-ended somebody today at a stop sign. I was going about 30 and slid on the ice, I was less than a foot away when I finally stopped. I thought that I was going to hit them for sure.

Good job on not being an idiot and gunning it at 80 when there's snow and ice on the road. It was your slow speed that prevented the accident. Too bad a lot of drivers don't realize this.

It is a well known fact the God does not intervene unless you are going at least 70...

A two seater car with three people in it flips at 85mph, all three people walk away without a scratch, I thanked God for riding with me that night.

I'd have written a long letter to the engineering team that designed it, and sent them a gift basket. 🙂

Too bad? Do you not believe in darwinism?

You know what? in all these years I never really considered that aspect of the wreck.

Tomorrow at 10:30 p.m. will be the 19'th anniversary of that crash, the other two people who were in the car with me have since died of unrelated causes.

The car was a 1985 Ford EXP , swerved left on to a banked median, over-corrected and hit the ramped start point of a guard rail on the right shoulder which flipped the car onto its roof (I still remember going over and seeing dirt "flying" at the windsheild) skidded and spun on the roof 250 feet, the guy in the back was upside down on his shoulder and side of his head, we gave him a push and he rolled out the hatchback where the back glass used to be, the wheels were still spinning and the radio blasting, there were cassette tapes strewn all over the road (about 100 cassettes) fire and rescue turned out in force with a dozen emergency vehicles.

We were in a hurry to get to a movie at 10:30 it was "Jumpin' Jack Flash"

Actually, I'm going to go with the hypothesis that God actually did intervene here. I mean, think about it: God, the Creator of the Universe and shaper of humanity, responsible for the tsunami and the earthquake in Pakistan and Hurricane Katrina, specifically looked down upon you today and excercised His will that your car, traveling at 20mph, should not hit the telephone pole after going out of control on icy road.

Well, I do for the most part. Unfortunately, innocent bystanders happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I once did a 360 on the 610 loop on the way to the Astrodome about ten years ago because of water and kept going. Scared the mess out of me. Thank goodness I was driving a stick.

🙂
