Einstein@home: Will TA overtake AMD-users

Hehe ... well, they got their PCs running 24/7 and always bother me with their problems. So I thought this was some nice "payment" I could harvest. And as I said, none of them complained yet about anything like that their PC has gotten slow. After a month or so I'll let them know and then they can't come with these lame arguments anymore than a DC project is bad for their PC. 😉😛

I'm not really into the whole premise behind E@H, but I will help for the sake of TA and TAS...Atleast I will attempt to. This is what I can offer (p42.66, 512mb, already running F@H) & (p4 3.2HT, 1gig, Running 2 instances of F@H.) I dont know how much ram this program takes up so someone let me know what I should do. If I could run it along with all my F@H instances or if I should take bigWU's off one of them....?

Jeff

Hey JeffCos!!

I run two instances of E@H on my P4 2,8 HT. Those two instances plus the BOINC GUI take up 20MB of RAM together, so RAM really is not an issue with this project at all.

I'm not sure what the best is with F@H and E@H. I'd assume that on a HT CPU you could let one instance crunch on E@H while the other one does F@H but I don't know if the two programs will really share the CPU 50/50. I've never done that. So that's basically up to you and some testing if that works. TAS welcomes any kind of help, even just one HT instance is more than welcome! I don't think that bigWUs/small WUs makes any difference here, as the memory usage of E@H is so low. I know you can very well configure BOINC to only take 50% of CPU, so it's only up the F@H and its priority flags/parameters to make them both work together.

If you need any more help or have questions, plz report back and I/we'll try our best to help you.

Thx for helping us on this project JeffCos, it's much appreciated. And if you don't like E@H, on the first of May TAS switches to a different project anyway, so it's basically only 2 weeks for you - unless you wanna continue running it afterwards of course.

Great post BlackMountainCow (Christian) 😛

JeffCos We would love to have you.

BMC's post is right on the money "as usual".

I have it running on 4 computers and it plays nice on all of them, ram isn't a problem.
We have 2 weeks left and then we will be moving on to a new project, whether you crunch for 2 weeks or follow with us we are glad to have you.

If you need any help or have any questions please don't hesitate to ask, we have some of the finest dc folks around. they always know how to help *at least this has been my experience" 🙂

And A big thank to you as well 😛

Mike

JeffCos, please join us in this. Your effort will count double: it helps to overtake the AMD Users, but also it helps to keep TA's persuers, the team OffTopic, at bay - at least for some time. Any contribution is very much appreciated!

@JeffCos
Welcome to TAS 😀

Set BOINC preferences to one processor if you want to run F@H and E@H at the same time, let OS do its thing.

If you have been running BigWUs you can continue to do so. Actually by running E@H as the second thing with HT you will speed up the BigWU, versus running two BigWUs (I think)

I decided that, since so many projects are joining BOINC, I should try one and see how it works. 🙂 So far, the WUs are huge, but I managed to get a couple.

I sent in two results, but they don't show up in my stats (not just the credit, the results aren't there yet.) I'm assuming they only update certain times of day? How often is that?

Returning work in BOINC is a 2-step-process, step 1 is uploading result-file(s). This normally happens immediately after a result is finished crunching, and afterwards the gui lists that WU as "ready to report" in the work tab.

The 2nd step is to "report" finished work, and this happens when your computer successfully connects to a scheduling-server and all "ready to report" WU are removed from the work tab in BOINC.

To minimize traffic on the scheduling-server, they're trying to group multiple "reports" together, so you only connect if either you're asking for more work, at least one result is near deadline, or you manually hit "update" on the Project tab in BOINC.

The crunching goes on ... and thats soooo good:

____________March, 31________April, 20_____Production
AMD Users:__720 636_________ 971 618______250 982 credits
TA:________ 560 099 _________913 842______ 353 743 credits
Difference:__ 160 537__________ 57 776______ 102 761 credits more than AMD Users

Looks good! 🙂

Go on crunching, it might be thight if we are going to overtake! 🙂

Good, morning, TAS-world!
It is saturday morning and here are some new stats:

Check the race TA vs. AMD Users ! It is going well.
Numbers:
__________ March, 31 _____ April, 15 _____ April 22 _____ Production in April
AMD Users: _ 720 636 _____ 902 606 _____994 931 ______ 274 295 credits
TA: ________ 560 099 _____ 803 686 _____948 810 _____ 388 711 credits
Difference: _ 160 537 ______ 98 920 _____ 46 121 _____ 114 416 credits more than AMD Users
Conclusion:
TA produces some 5200 credits more every day, thus TA may well pass AMD-Users on the last day of april. TA may however also fail in passing before deadline .... Please crunch some moore,

The race TA vs. OffTopic is going less well,
Numbers:
March 31: __ TA: 560 099 credits ___OffTopic: 431 046 ____ diff: 129 053
April 22: ___ TA: 948 810 credits ___ OffTopic: 910 660____ diff: 38 150
Conclusion:
The OffTopic-crunchers produce some 4100 credits more than TA every day. Thus they may overtake us sometime around last of april ... 🙂

OK, Folks, why not join the melée and crunch some more?
Join TAS at it's new site and become one of the merry crowd!
