7-15-2004 BOINC Project to Search for Gravitational Waves

"Einstein@Home is a new, BOINC-based distributed computing project that will analyze data from the Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory (LIGO). The goal is to perform a whole-sky, gravitational wave survey of pulsars. Beta-test versions of the Einstein@Home screen saver should be available by the end of the summer, and final release is planned for early 2005."

This looks like valuable science. 🙂

I hope a screen saver isn't the only way to run it.

I've read quite a bit about LIGO. They were having problems getting good data, but I guess they've fixed that now. I'll definitely attach this project when it runs 🙂

Whooo, I might have to switch to this project. LIGO is about 25 miles from where I live(take a left turn at BF Egypt).

youuuuuuuuuuuu, I'd run this too, i hope they make a nix client

Saweeeet! 😀

My the guest speaker at my astronomy club meeting last month spoke on gravity waves and the research they're planning to do with LIGO (and a space-based gravity wave detector that they hope to follow it). Definitely cool stuff since it will allow them to detect the collapse of super-massive stars BEFORE they go nova and therefore have a 'early-warning' to point all sorts of ground and space-based detectors and telescopes in time to record the event!

I think I'll just have to go 50/50 on this and S@H when it comes out (which is most of what I love BOINC for!)

I haven't been as active as much lately (long story) but good to see you're back, David.

Oh, and thanks! 😀
